Kevlar Skin - Transmigrator album cover

When you think of Spain, Death Metal is not the first thing that comes to mind. Sure, this country has given us great Goregrind acts like HAEMOHAGE and MACHETAZO, and Extreme Metal acts like HYBRID, but there are relatively few straight up, dyed in wool Death Metal acts. However, if KEVLAR SKIN are anything to go by, then the Death Metal scene in Spain must be very good. This five piece from Cordoba have recently unleashed their third full length, "Transmigrator", upon the world, and, after listening this new album. I hope that the world checks these guys out.

The song that closes the album "Dawn of a Nation", is incredibly groovy, and has a great Bass solo section. Sebas' Bass work is one of the highlights of this whole album. From the songs like "Breed of Salvation" to the opening Bass solo on the title track, it's clear that the band have an asset in him and his talented playing. As I've said before, in order to have a stand alone Bass section on a Death Metal song you have to have two things; technical ability and a great tone. Sebas possesses both of these things. "Hardware (M.A.R.K. 13)" is an extremely sleek, modern kind of Brutal Death Metal, complete with powerful drum blasts and groovy, thick guitar lines. It is slightly reminiscent of some of CANNIBAL CORPSE's more recent work; technical, but not to the point that it's ridiculous, and above all, catchy. One of the songs that truly stands out is the eerie and dark sounding "Voluntary Extinction", which reminds me of some of OPETH's best work. Even the weakest songs on this album, like "Self-Proclaimed God" and "Flatline Famine", are very good.

This album is really good, and I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy technical Bass tracks. This has high musicianship and is really catchy. Hopefully these guys will gain some recognition with this record, because it definitely deserves to be heard.
