OGRE is an American band formed in 1999, they released 3 albums until they went into a hiatus, after six years they release a new album with new material through a new label. This new album is called "The Last Neanderthal" and was released to great reviews, with one reviewer calling it the doom release of the year... I, unfortunately, will have to disagree on that.
First let me start talking about the good points, their sound could be described as 70's hard rock with Doom influences, the 70's feel being further enhanced by the choice of production. Another good point is their great lyrics which are very well done and not your typical doom lyric.
Don't get me wrong this is a pretty decent record and there is nothing wrong with it in terms of the abilities of the players, they each are pretty good at what they do, the main problem for me, and what in the end lowered the rating, was the vocals, they are very high, I mean really high on the mix and overly pitched on the register scale. If you don't like this type of vocals it can render a very pleasant experience into a very irritating one.
In conclusion, this is not a bad record, the main problem is the vocals, if you can't get used to it you will probably hate it, but if not, and get past it, you will probably love it.
