Wrath Within - Atlantis album cover

"Atlantis" is the first official album from Spaniards WRATH WITHIN, although they recorded a previous one called "Blackened Mirror" that could not be published due to studio issues. These five young Metalheads bring their Melodic Death Metal sound, more common from the Scandinavian countries than from the sunny and warm coast of Valencia.

Visibly influenced by bands like CHILDREN OF BODOM, the Spanish quintet proves their aggressive and obscure music with talented musicians in the band. It should be noted that the lead guitarist, Mike "Wrathchild", was selected as best guitarist at World Competition Emergenza Fest. Proof of which are the technical and insane speedy riffs that comprise the six tracks of this record. Alongside his good job on the vocals and in company of the machine-gun-drums and symphonic keyboards, turn this album into a journey direct to the hell without stops on the way. You better fasten your seatbelts.

The opening track "Oblivion", starting with a symphonic atmosphere, turns quickly into a nightmare full of sharp riffs and demoniac voices that will not leave you indifferent. In tracks "Requiem Pt.2" and "One Night", Mike "Wrathchild" show us again his great skills with the guitar. Playing it with an extremely speed and technique at the same time that could remind us to Michael Amott from ARCH ENEMY in his old days. The self-titled track "Atlantis" could be a good candidate to be the first single of the album. With a blistering opening full of heavy riffs that gives way to a swarm of solos and a catchy chorus, this song represents pretty well the sound of the band. Here we can check out the fast pedals of the drummer Carles, who contributes with his technique to give the songs the speedy beat needed. On "Smooth Criminal" track, we see the funny side of the band. This Michael Jackson´s Classic is transformed with no pity in a Death Metal version that will provoke you some laugh, at the same time you enjoy it.

To sum up, inside "Atlantis" you will find a well mixture of symphonic keyboards, fast drums, sharp guitars and deep voices. All creating a melodic and dark sound that will remind you that you are in the hell, at least until the record ends. Incidentally, the production of the album is not the best one. The whole record sounds a little bit thick, and I miss some variety on the making of the songs. But the feelings are good, and it´s a matter of time that this band improves its sound and steps to the next level.
