Craven Idol - Towards Eschaton album cover

When I talk about Thrash / Black Metal, we can see the things in two different ways: the ones who do something more in Thrash Metal way, with Black Metal themes. On the other side, we have Black Metal bands playing Thrash Metal. The first ones sounds more melodic (even with all the aggressiveness), and the second are more brutal and oppressive (even with good technique). And in the second group is CRAVEN IDOL, coming from London, England, with their first album, "Towards Eschaton".

The CD is a fine piece of Black / Thrash Metal in the very same way of AURA NOIR, but more aggressive and with much better work from guitars (especially the solos), and they really do a fine job here.

Low grunt vocals, insane guitar riffs and fine solos (we really can hear the melodies there, not just a boring buzz), the rhythm basis done by bass and drums are heavy and do some variations in the tempos that are very good. It's something alive and full of energy.

Good sound production (that really could be better. They deserve it), a good artwork, so these factors are enough for making us all pay more attention in their music. And when we do, they convince us all to by a copy of it for sure! Ok, you're all expecting me to let you in on the better songs, right?

All of them are very good, but "To Summon Mayrion" (that starts as a Black Metal song, before the apocalypse comes upon our ears, with a violent storm of guitar riffs and harsh vocals, and excellent changes of tempos), the thunderous and fast "Golgotha Wounds" (with vocals puking aggression to all sides, and the variations really are astonishing), "Codex of Seven Dooms" (a little more slower than the preceding ones, with bass and drums weighting heavy a lot, and some melodic riffs that remember somewhat of old DISSECTION)  and the insane "Left to Die".

But be prepared to be thrown out from the window.
