"Adversarial", the 3^rd full length from Massachusetts natives BLACK PYRAMID has a very unpolished sound. I felt l was listening to 3 guys in the process of writing songs.  A guitar riff played alone, over and over. Then the rest of the band joins in. When it was time for a change everyone stops and listens for the next riff.... Rinse. Repeat. I was almost expecting to hear a conversation about how much the studio time costs and the sounds of beers cracking open in-between tracks.

Now before I get hit with a scimitar let me say this. It's not a horrible CD. But it's just not great. There are some pretty cool moments.  Around the 5 minute mark of Swing the Scimitar they bring the intensity down and have a nice mellow break that has more feel and flavor than the rest of the album.  The Average ADHD kid would not make it that far to enjoy it thought.

The problem is in the execution. If you are going to play a slow 3-chord riff for 3 minutes straight, you need to keep it fresh. Or else you end up with what sounds like a skipping CD. Fade it in.  Add some Samples. Lay a lead over it. Something.

I wanted to love this. I really did. Cool name for a band. Decent album cover art. Poorly executed.  Not enough in it.
