Daze Of The Week
Acid Reign

ACID REIGN is a band that I first encountered when they were supporting the mighty EXODUS in 1989. I saw them at the University of Milton Keynes in the UK. ACID REIGN originates from Harrogate, also in the UK, and have been around the block a few times throughout the years. I do remember that even though they were a real Thrash Metal band, they added a lot of humour and slapstick into their shows. At the same time they didn't do it for me musically, as I felt it was all too juvenile for my taste. Having been formed, they disbanded in 1991, giving us two albums during that time. In 2015 they somehow got the notion to return, and after an album in 2019 ("The Age Of Entitlement") they are tempting fate with a second album since their return. I decided that I was able and willing to given them a second chance to see if I like them better this time around, and I have to say that "Daze Of The Week" is a breath of fresh air.
As far as ACID REIGN concerns in my own personal life, I can only conclude that they have cleaned up their act, decided to go for a more adult approach, but without losing any of their playfulness in the musical approach to their songs. And that is what makes "Daze Of The Week" into a very pleasant album to listen to. What does help a lot with this kind of Thrash Metal is when the singer in question is doing everything right. And that certainly is the case, as H is a very competent and able frontman when it comes to the tracks on this album. He sings, shouts and screams in just the right order at exactly the most fitting times, making the intensity of the songs increase by a point or two.
As I mentioned, the band has matured in their musical approach as well, and that makes ACID REIGN into a very good and capable Thrash Metal band overall. The music is straight forward and simple, but most importantly, very effective, making "Daze Of The Week" into a rather good album. This might not be the best Thrash Metal album you've ever heard, but it definitely is one of the most entertaining ones. And if they still have the ability to translate that aspect from the studio to the stage, as they did when I saw them, you will certainly enjoy a very good time going to see ACID REIGN. All the more reason to treasure "Daze Of The Week".
