Revelations

Threat Signal

THREAT SIGNAL apparently are very aware of what works for them, what doesn’t do it for them, but more importantly, with what kind of music they feel comfortable playing to an audience. And when a band has that sense of realisation and acceptance, who am I as an anonymous listener to question their choices.

THREAT SIGNAL is a name that I would have thought could and should belong to a Hardcore Metal band, or even a Punk group. But no, they are a Technical Metalcore band, and they hail from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. They have been making noises since 2004, and with the release of "Revelations" on the 27th of March 2026 they have been able to release their fifth studio album to date, after a lengthy wait of nine years, as their last slab of music "Disconnect" was brought to us in 2017. I must say that they are a new band for me personally, and I can tell you that they have neither impressed nor disappointed me.

In just over 46 minutes the guys within THREAT SIGNAL give us very accessible and acceptable Metalcore that has a bit of a Middle Of The Road vibe. Why do I say this? Because somehow, they give me a LINKIN PARK feeling. I know, that doesn't exactly fit with what I hear musically, but the way the vocals are sung, delivered and spoken they use that same kind of lines, they add similar kinds of emphasis. Plus, they might be Technical Metalcore, on "Revelations" they still are able to showcase a decent amount of Melodic elements and parts. Plus, they have set their boundaries within such a range that they obviously have the intention of making music that is easy to listen to, without stepping out too far for the masses.

Is it a problem that they have opted for this approach on "Revelations"? Not for me, as I feel that the guys within THREAT SIGNAL apparently are very aware of what works for them, what doesn't do it for them, but more importantly, with what kind of music they feel comfortable playing to an audience. And when a band has that sense of realisation and acceptance, who am I as an anonymous listener to question their choices. What I do feel is that by confining themselves to the boundaries they have set, they might sound good for the short while, but in the long run they will lose out to those who dare to be different, who are adventurous enough to throw caution to the wind and go for it with everything they have got. And that is how I see and hear when I listen to "Revelations". If you ask me, I think THREAT SIGNAL is capable of a lot more.
