För evigt

Motljus

This album was a scene of devastation, destruction, regret, and anger. But it was also a scene of serenity and peace, the latter two are just harder to find. Like any mind puzzle, if you are able to block out some of the thick never-ending aggression, you will discover the beauty within. It just makes you work harder to find the soft core.

From their EPK, "The album presents an introspective, urban approach to atmospheric black metal, rooted in everyday experience rather than mythology or folklore, offering a distinctly modern perspective on contemporary Scandinavian black metal.  Across five tracks, "För evigt" develops a carefully balanced sound where cold, melodic guitar work, mid-paced rhythms and subtle post black textures coexist with a strong sense of atmosphere and control. The songwriting favors gradual evolution over dramatic peaks, while the production remains clear and spacious, emphasizing depth without sacrificing intensity. Elements of blackgaze appear at times, not as a dominant feature, but as a textural layer enhancing the album's melancholic and reflective mood."

The album has four songs, and "Kallt Regn" is first. It roars out of the gate, sprinting at breakneck speed, and the aggressiveness is dialed up to 11. The guitars provide a thick backbone, and the vocal screams are akin to a plane breaking the sound barrier. It does slow eventually, and then a frigid, somber landscape is left. Nothing grows, and the cold is mind numbing. "Blå Ögon" is a little less aggressive, with a slower pace, and the guitars are still as thick as a redwood. The vocal screams are so damn tortured, and the music paints a desolate landscape…combine the two together and you have an end of the world scenario. Some of the sound drops for just a bit, giving blackgaze vibes, but it returns in the end, even more hostile than before.

"Avsked" has some electronic fuzz in the opening that sounds like a swarm of killer bees prepping for an attack. Buried in the white noise are hints of melody, and they come through like a warm ray of sunshine. The melody remains in the forefront, but it takes a turn into darker, more somber feelings. "Svart Sot" is the final song, and suddenly, the massive storm that pummeled you for hours has moved on. The rain stops, the sky lightens, and the warm sun returns. However, the scream that breaks the silence is longer than any other I have heard in a while. It seems to indicate that the band is not done with turmoil, or torture. In the end, it's hard to tell…because melody is always trying to poke through.
