Putrevore is a plain, humble death metal duo consisting of vocalist Dave Rotten and guitarist/bassist Rogga Johansson. Rogga is the most notable member, as he has played in not one, not two, but sixty-six bands. This seems to be just another project for him. Accompanying this duo for their fifth full-length album is session drummer Thomas Ohlsson. "Unending Rotting Cycle" is a product of many jacks of many trades, but expect no more than straight-to-the-point death metal. Not a bad thing whatsoever if done correctly.

"No Mourning The Grace" starts the slew of singles. The track is extremely dissonant, almost like a dark ambient song upon first listen. All instrumentation sounds like it was pushed back during recording, as the vocals dominate almost every second. The drums are especially quiet, a rare sight in the modern movement of death metal. Even with my earbuds that are designed especially for metal music playing, it's almost a challenge to hear the riffs through the swampy overflow of vocals. The track ends, and I'm pretty confused about what the second single could possibly bring to the table. "Mortal Ways Of The Flesh" started out strong with forward riffs, and the instrumentation puts up more of a fight against the whitewash that is the vocal delivery. At some moments, the combination of the dense playing and longer guttural notes combines into a wash of sound that's quite unpleasant. Don't even ask me about the lyrics, because I'm about as lost as the proper mixing here. "Mortal Ways Of The Flesh" is the standout pre-release track, but for me, that's not saying too much.

The album trudges onward, whether I want it to or not. "Morbid Procession" could be brutal death metal if the playing were a little bit tighter. The burpy echoes of "UGH" finally pause for some actual groovy riffs, but it's not enough to distract me from the extremely loud singing. "Subterranean Paths To The Temples" is a badass song name, and while the pounding guitars create some atmosphere, guess what overshadows it. I'm not going to list off every single song, comment on okay playing, then say that the vocals are mixed way too loud for this review, so I'm keeping it quite simple, and I'm trying to instead point out any highlights of a track. Repeating the same criticism over and over again only works so many times. Back to the music, and by reaching "Beneath These Graves," I'm twiddling my thumbs at what I could highlight - the black metalesque drumming? The loud, uh, everything? If you listen to this album from across the room for whatever reason, it sounds like noise. Sometimes a good thing, this time not.

The title track introduces some crazily-produced vocals that sound quite gargley. While the blasts are a beating and the riffs are a riffing, I just can't ignore the vocals. Straying from what I said before, a definite highpoint is Thomas. He should be a member of the group at the rate he's delivering. I don't understand why they don't just adopt him. "They Worship Decay," "Cult Of The Tentacle," and "The Cradle Replaced By The Grave" suffer the same fate as the rest of the tracks, and we all know by now why.

Putrevore's disheveled album, that is "Unending Rotting Cycle," is nothing to write home about, and really doesn't add anything to the death metal genre. This LP is full of dissonant, noisy, and vocally overpowering metal that I can't get into. If everything wasn't so flat, I'd get more enjoyment out of it. If dissonance is your thing, the sub-genre has way more entertaining and pleasant songs to listen to.
