Shatter And Bloom
Stellvris

STELLVRIS hailing from Prague, Czech Republic were formed in 2019. The modern Metal outfit has released one EP and one full-length album so far. Their sophomore EP "Shatter & Bloom" was produced, mixed, and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek (ANKOR; OCEANS; XANDRIA), at Sawdust Recordings. It has a length of more than 18 minutes, and it is an independent release. The EP starts frantic with a blast-beat attack, screams, and the main riff for the title track. "Shatter And Bloom" is a mixture of many genres and elements. There are crushing parts with devastating guitar riffs and growling vocals, in between, there are melodic Metal parts with easy-to-listen melodies and clean vocals, all enriched with Pop twists and electronic effects. It is a track at a fast tempo and very dynamic most of the time. The vocals are very versatile, they are a mixture of growls and clean vocals, where the growls range around the medium end of the guttural range, while the clean vocals cover a large range with many tonal shifts. "Shatter And Bloom" is the official video release, and the YouTube link is provided below.
"Silence After Violence" starts quiet with the electronic effects and the clean vocals, leading into a verse part with powerful guitar riffs at a measured tempo with a sluggish rhythm, while the keyboards are providing a dark atmosphere in the background. The choruses have many melodic Metalcore vibes. The vocals are an alternation of clean vocals and brutal screams. The choruses have catchy but dark melodies. "Silence After Violence" is one of my favorite tracks on the EP. "Monster" begins with a Pop inspired pre-lude driven by electronic effects. It is a mid-tempo track and perhaps the one with the most Pop elements, although it has some crushing twists and breakdowns. It is an alternation of melodic elements, driven by the clean vocals, and heavy parts driven by punishing guitar riffs and the growls and screams. "Monster" is a track with the greatest diversity, and it all ends with a classical Deathcore breakdown, which nobody would expect. "Time's Up" has a heavy start with devastating riffs at a measured tempo. The verse part starts with the clean vocals, transitioning into the growls as the verse part goes on. The melodies are orientally inspired. The choruses go again into melodic Metalcore mode with highly pitched clean vocals. The EP finishes with a Nicki Minaj cover of the old summer hit "Starships". It is an interesting arrangement of the original and it fits perfectly into the overall sound of the EP.
STELLVRIS deliver a promising EP. The sound of "Shatter And Bloom" is inspired and influenced by many different Metal subgenres as well as by Pop elements. It is an interesting mix of everything, often alternating melodic and crushing elements. STELLVRIS do not shy away from experimenting with their sound and throwing elements into the mix that do not necessarily fit together. The closest description is perhaps melodic Metalcore with Pop twists. The EP is well produced. "Shatter And Bloom" does not fit into the classical buckets, but melodic Metal and melodic Metalcore fans who are open for crossing boundaries will like what they hear.
