Hostile Wasteland (feat. Wolfpack)
Wolfbrigade

As found on the internet: Formed in 1995 in the small Swedish city of Mariestad by key players from Sweden's legendary hardcore scene, WOLFBRIGADE (known as WOLFPACK until 1999) remain among Scandinavia's most respected, influential and reliable purveyors of real-world brute-force hullabaloo. "Hostile Wasteland" is an EP that was originally recorded in 2000 under the name WOLFPACK as well. It now has been rerecorded and rereleased by the mighty Metal Blade Records. And before you ask, I need to add two more things; they play real-world, brute-force, political Hardcore Punk and I have never heard of them before now. My bad.
As to narrow down how WOLFBRIGADE does sound, think Punk with some Thrash Metal influences, but more importantly, as if MOTÖRHEAD is playing pure Punk instead of their Rock 'n' Roll version. But what is even more impressive in my books is that although I'm not the world's biggest Punk afficionado, I really am digging what I hear on "Hostile Wasteland". The music on this EP is sharp, very much in your face, but also very easy to listen to. somehow these guys know how to make sense of it all, and already did know how to achieve that some 25 years ago. Even though the four songs only add up to m12:25 minutes, they pack such a punch that I am unable to ignore how good this all sounds. Plus that even though the songs are short and sweet, they have that all important ingredient that is the main one in music; emotion. Sometimes melancholy, but usually angry and/or excited.
What all of those elements achieve for me is add to my desire to hear more of WOLFBRIGADE. That is not a problem either, as they released their latest album in 2024, which they gave the very nice and friendly title of "Life Knife Death". Plus they have a new album out as well, which houses live studio recordings from their own Wolfden Studios, with songs that span their whole career of playing real-world, brute-force, political Hardcore Punk. "Kill To Live" is the next review along on the Metal Temple site, and also done by me. These two releases have actually been released together, as to celebrate the thirtieth birthday of the band. I have said it before, I never examine new bands that I request for review, and sometimes I get surprised in a very nice way. Well, WOLFBRIGADE have done just that in a very positive way, and I feel that after listening to "Hostile Wasteland" I need to check out their whole history.
