CRIMSON COVEN is a relatively new Spanish Epic Heavy Metal/Doom Metal band, having only been formed in 2023. Now, in 2025 they have the possibility to show themselves to the world, as they have signed with Shadow Kingdom Records. The first thing on the agenda was to release their "-0- The Genesis" on vinyl and in digital format, so that the band could gain recognition. Now that has been done it is up to us as an audience to pick up on whether we like what they do and wish to hear more from them. I will start by saying that they have begged, stolen and borrowed just about every cliché that you can think of, and turned all of them into three lengthy songs that have all the elements that I mentioned in the first paragraph. Singer J has the very elaborate and almost operatic kind of voice that makes the music sound even more dramatic than it does on its own. As for the Doom Metal as well as Heavy Metal references, the band combines those in a way that it will transport you back to the early eighties, when a lot of the NWOBHM bands just went a bit slower. What this combination does on "-0- The Genesis" is give the music air to breathe, room to expand. And before I forget, I really do need to mention that if the sound of the demo was close to that CRIMSON COVEN has on this EP, they are wizards in recording their own stuff. As for the songs themselves, they have all the right kind of elements that will have an old dog like me listening to it time and time again. It does remind me of the early days of Heavy Metal really making a splash and becoming more and more accepted and liked to us, the youngsters of the eighties. And even though there isn't an original note or lyrical line to be found on "-0- The Genesis", I can't help but enjoy what CRIMSON COVEN has put out. But as the songs are quite lengthy, give them time to grow on you. I for one do hope that there are enough people that will accept, enjoy and recognise that what these guys are doing is nice. And don't be put off by my remark about originality, but just go ahead and listen to "-0- The Genesis". Who knows, you might be next to join the CRIMSON COVEN.
