Everlasting Wisdom of the Ancients
Sigorsped

From The Metal Archives, SIGORSPED is a Black Metal band hailing from parts unknown but based somewhere within the US. They are also part of the “Order of the Broken Sword” along with LURING, WULDORGAST, and AZAROTH’s DREAM. The album has ten songs, and “Ecstatic Trance of the Warrior” is first. Firm, somber tones lead the charge, followed by frightening sounds, and then a blast of Black Metal, in the vein of the FWOBM tradition. “Legacy” is more of the same, but the sound comes straight for you like a rabid dog being set loose from his cage. There isn’t a lot of variation here however. The sound is thick, and even overgrown, but there isn’t much in the way of diversity.
“Psychedelic Communion Under” presents a bit of variation out of the gate, but it falls back into the familiar too soon, This can be a coping mechanism of sorts for a band to feel safe with what they are composing. “Venemous Betrayal of the Sacred” is another pedal to the metal song where they band doesn’t let up for even a second. It’s full assault, full attack, and up your ass. “Twin Blades of the Order” is a shorter instrumental, and it gives the listener time to take a break. There are three of these on the album, and they really add to the ambiance. “Malefic Light Cast Upon the Coile” hears the album revert back to the early raucous style of the previous songs. There is also a lead break, which is unusual for the genre. It’s typically all about the riffs.
“Requiem for the Fallen” hears the lines of the album blur a bit, there just isn’t much variation in pacing or in diversity, and the vocals are delivered in nearly the same method. Sure, it’s raging and aggressive, but not much else. “Trinity of Ruin” is the last of the short movements, and the tones are very gentle, but solemn. Ruin is exactly the word that comes to mind. “The Ties which Bind an Eternal” is the final song. It has a tense and tentative opening, even with a bit of melody, but is dashed shortly thereafter by horrid sounds. Overall, this wasn’t a bad album by any means, but too many of the songs just sounded similar, and the band didn’t push themselves any further from the FWOBM bands that started things off.
