Lifted From The Wind

Besides this release can be hard to some to deal with due its long songs, the band shows a very good work, indeed.

To play old musical genres and try something different is like looking for water in a rocky soil, or in other words, a hard thing to do. No one is forbidden to do such a thing, but must have in mind that things aren’t as easy as they seem, because the tendency is to be drowned into a morass of cliches. But some good names on such tendencies appear, and the Dutch quartet TEMPLE FANG is one of them, as shown on “Lifted from the Wind”. Produced, engineered and mixed by Sebastiaan van Bijlevelt at Galloway Studio (with Ivy, the band’s guitarist/singer making some additional recordings), and Alex McCollough did the mastering at True East, Nashville, the efforts were done in a way that could guarantee the songs an organic and lysergic feeling, but in a way that could be defined and understood by the hearers.

The artwork and design of Right on Mountain and Geert Schaap work in a great way. On the songs, Ismena and Sebastiaan van Bijlevelt made some additional vocals. As the words above state clear, the quartet is focused on a 60s trend on Rock ‘n’ Roll, filled with influences from acts as THE BEATLES, THE WHO, PINK FLOYD, THE ROLLING STONES and other bands of those days, when Psychedelic elements crossed with Acid Rock. Due the long songs, it seems that they recued a lot of Progressive Rock elements of the early days (but pay attention: you won’t be bothered by it, be sure). It’s clear that non-used fans can have problems to deal with such thing, but as long as one overcomes such difficulty, things will shine, indeed.

Dealing with “The River”, “Once”, “Harvest Angel”, “The Radiant” and “Josephine” can demand a lot from the hearers’ patience (reminding: the band uses very long songs, lasting more than 10 minutes), but again: as long as you get used, the value of each song will be revealed. Again: it’s not easy to deal with “Lifted from the Wind” at the first listen, but on the second, you’ll be addicted to TEMPLE FANG’s music.
