Paragon I
Paragon

PARAGON is not exactly a unique name in the music universe, and not even in the world of Rock and Metal. Out best-known exponent with that title is German, but that is not who I am listening to at this moment in time. These guys are from Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, and as far as I know, have only produced two EP’s that never came to light in the international Rock and Metal market. When I read in the information that comes with the music, I learn that the two main players of the band started life in a cover band that liked to play RUSH and LED ZEPPELIN songs. But they wanted to make their own music, and decided to start PARAGON. And their musical direction would be Melodic Rock/Metal.
“Paragon I” was originally recorded in 1990, but like I said was never before released. So, this actually is the first time this has been put on CD. I really wish to thank Heaven & Hell Records for doing so. I am cursing the record companies of the early nineties, because how is it possible that this wasn’t available for us at the time!? That should answer the question whether I think that what this version of PARAGON is bringing us is any good. This is very pleasing Melodic Rock with metal elements, and for almost 30 minutes I am in a dreamworld, surrounded by heavenly music that is very uplifting.
First off, the sound of the EP “Paragon I” is outstanding, which makes the very well written songs stand out even more. And even though the music in its own right is already very impressive, it is the sound of the voice of Sonny Reynolds that lift it even higher. When you hear him sing, you do understand why they played RUSH and LED ZEPPELIN when they played covers. His voice is perfect for it. but there are times that he even has a bit of GEOFF TATE in him. And as we all know, having a singer that is exceptional is quite an important part in Melodic Rock and Metal.
PARAGON are finally seeing the light of being released. And not only with their first EP “Paragon I” from 1990, but also with their second EP with the very original title “Paragon II” from 1992. Let me just state that if you are an enthusiast for Melodic Rock and Metal you need to listen to these records. Not maybe, but mandatory. This simply is too good to miss.
