Metalcore is a modern Metal genre that can deceive listeners, because the range of sonorities that it covers is extremely ample and deep. Any definition can cause misconceptions that will be hard to undo. When any fan deals with a release under such label, this fan must be careful to not be confused. It is what one must do when dealing with “Dying Breed”, the 5-piece Ep of the USA act HELL COMES HOME. The songs were mixed and mastered by Stoneridge Records, giving the EP an unexpected sonority for the genre: the usual abrasive modern instrumental tunes aren’t heard, being something more into a Thrash Metal-like way to be.

But it earns the band a defined and understandable sound. The artwork is a creation of Ebonpyrestudio, and it’s really charming. The different approach on Metalcore show by the band born from the musical background of Sam and Nick (the founders of the band), because they are Metal fans that developed a musical taste for modern Metal genres as Metalcore and Deathcore. It means that their musical efforts on this way are filled with many different influences, what means that the songs will have a personal insight on Metalcore. But’s very good in the way it is, indeed.

After hearing to “Demons” (an aggressive piece with fine contrasts between grunts, shrieks and normal vocals), “Dying Breed” (here the modern side of Metalcore is evident, with thunderous bass guitar and drums parts), “The Other Side” (pay attention to some SLAYER-like guitars’ arrangements), “Honor is Everything” and “Sic Semper Tyrannis”, and you’ll feel the difference between a band that follows models and one that do things on their own (this second one is where you’ll find HELL COMES HOME).

“Dying Breed” is a very good release, indeed, and if you’re into modern Metal tendencies, HELL COMES HOME is the right band for you.
