Mutiny

Raging Fate

Metal mutiny.
February 26, 2025

During my Metal years I have crossed almost every type of heavy music and almost every type of definition of what kind of Metal it is. Today I have learned a new one, Teutonic Metal, which is like German Metal, Google says. Bands like RUNNING WILD and GRAVE DIGGER are mentioned as exponents of this genre. We have another band that dabbles in this area and their name is RAGING FATE that are releasing their third full album Mutiny. Strangely, they are from Sweden. The album starts with “Dead Man's Land” that exiles energy and speed. Sounds like a good speed metal with some double bass madness courtesy of drummer Stefan Almqvist.

We followed with “Skull and Bones” that is even faster and gave me vibes of ACCEPT. The themes around battles and adventures from the past and “Horror Movie Mania” pull the breaks a little and have a slower cadence and an interesting melody. RAGIN FATE has 2 good guitar players in Juha Niemi and Thomas Eriksson and some solos remind me of guitar players like Warren Di Martini in terms of melody. We go back to power on “Darkness and Sorrow” that has a galloping vibe ala IRON MAIDEN plus the double guitar work. We reach the track that names the album “Mutini” that is another speed metal track with epic touches. We have the bass leading the way on “Power And Flame” and it has all the campy ingredients of the 80’s and 90's rock with the basic chugs chugs and not much else happening. For me it is the weakest so far and the chorus is not the best. It gets better on the next track “The Vendetta Ride “ that has a powerful guitar riff.

The issue that I have with this album so far are the singing melodies that are not captivating or inspiring unfortunately. The band started as a solo project from singer Mattias "Matte" Lövdal that also plays bass. Maybe he should be just play bass. He can sing somewhat in tune but his voice is too normal for the musical parts. This genre requires great vocal work and this does not happen in this album. Tracks like the good “The Great Heathen Army” or "Blood Red Sky" a subpar singing melody and bland vocal performance. A screaming vocalist with good range and some more defying singing melodies would greatly improve the band. There is potential but it needs to be better explored.
