In the End, Was it Worth it?
Scare

From Bandcamp, Drawing inspiration from the iconic CURSED, MI AMORE, BURIED INSIDE, and TRIGGER EFFECT, SCARE delivers an abrasive and intense style of sludge-tone metallic hardcore packed with slamming grooves. SCARE’s second LP, “In The End, Was It Worth It?” drops thirteen powerful anthems, densely delivered in thirty-two minutes, each gripping track surging with the morose reality of modern life, and hopeful optimism for a better outcome.” The album has 13 songs, and “Nevermind if it all explodes, I'll die anyway” is first. It has an energetic Punk groove to it, and it’s quite fast and short. The vocals are harsh, and the production a bit raw and muted for effect.
“Drifted Away” is just over two-minutes, and it’s hard to pinpoint the sound. Like Black and Death Metal, it has grating vocals, and slamming riffs. But unlike either, the song is quite short and akin to a gasoline fire that rages and then dies. “The Black Painting” is also jam packed with sound in its relatively short life, and the slower groove conjures more harrowing images for me. The vocal screams are twisted, and tortured. “Crowned in Yellow” has some blackened elements in the guitars, but once it is ready, it gets up and moves quickly. “Doomynation” is the first song where the pace is slowed, and I conjure images of endless grey skies, doom, and death. The only vocals are three short screams.
“Jeanne Dark” begins slowly, but picks up quickly, with tortured screams, and an even-keeled riff that moves with a distinct groove. For me, it’s a song about hopelessness. “Midnight Ride” is like taking a muscle car out in the dark and just hitting the gas. So many things pass before your eyes, it’s hard to keep up with them. “Harakiri Ton Industrie” is a slow, and powerful grind, that uses the “Devil’s Fifth” chord that made BLACK SABBATH famous back in the day, but again, it picks up quickly into another blistering sound. “Reality of Death in the Maze of Hope” is as black as your soul. The vocals spit venom and the riff slams you repeatedly.
“Doomynation 2” closes the album, and it contains mostly frightening sounds. Take a look at the album cover if you want clues as to the type of music that’s inside. Hues of gray and black suggest depression, and doom, and the black figure with a mask suggests death. The way he holds up his robe, he is beckoning you somewhere. I get the shitty reality of modern life in this music, but not so much the hopeful optimism. It was an enjoyable listen for me.
