三屍 (Sanshi)
Ripped to Shreds
Death Metal is and seems to always be the most brutal and outrageous Metal genre of all, because even with some evolutions due the passing of time, brutality and aggressiveness are still flowing to all sides without mercy. And some bands take such tradition onward, as the North American quartet RIPPED TO SHREDS shows on “三屍 (Sanshi)”. Originally born as a one men band of Andrew Lee (co-owner of Nameless Grave Records and owner of Outrageous Weeb Power Productions), it became a band with main focus on Old School Death Metal formats, so the band can make your ears bleed as easy as a snap of fingers.
But even working on a musical genre eroded due the time and use, they depict some good differences, as some melodic care on some parts (especially on guitar solos and some themes), and a brutal and massive energy. It’s nothing new at all, but’s very, very good. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Andrew Lee at The Weeb Dungeon, with the mastering being signed by Damian Herring at Subterranean Watchtower Studios. It’s obvious that the things were done to preserve the Death Metal sound impact of the quartet’s music, but in a way that can be easily understood. And the image used for the cover (a work of Guang Yang) depicts Yama (or Enma), the ruler of the inferior spiritual world.
As told above, the quartet works on an Old School Death Metal similar to acts as EXHUMED, OBITUARY and others, and “Into the Court of Yanluowang”, “Force Fed”, “燒冥紙 (Sacrificial Fire)”, “孽鏡臺 (Visions of Sin, Mirror of Darkness)”, “Feast of the Deceased”, “殭屍復活 (Horrendous Corpse Resurrection)”, “Living in Effigy”, “冥婚 (Corpse Betrothal)”, “Cultivating Towards Ascension” and “Perverting the Funeral Rites, Stripping for the Dead” are a set of sick, insane and aggressive Death Metal songs, sometimes as fast as light, on others slower and climatic, but always good for destroying ears and disturbing the peace in the neighborhood. So play it LOUD!
Without innovation, RIPPED TO SHREDS offers to Death Metal fans a very good release on “三屍 (Sanshi)”. Listen to it and blow your brains to pieces!
