Sanguine

Benthic

This was a good album. The band used a lot of different elements in their brand of music, including groovy riffs, both clean and harsh vocals, some Core, some Grunge, even some Alternative.

From Lifeforce Records, “Consisting of two guitars, bass, drums and a powerful singer, BENTHIC playing a mixture of powerful hardcore and grooving metal with sustaining melodies. Dark guitar walls and angry roars are constantly being broken down to give room for emotions. An association with the elemental forces of maritime nature in all its beauty and brutality. The band, featuring founding member Sebastian Formella and Siegmar Holzfuß, has found a new label home at Lifeforce Records and will be back in 2025 with the first full-length “Sanguine.”

The album has ten songs, and the title track is first. The vocals are delivered smoothly and gently at first, but the music is weighted. The vocals rise, and are backed with emotion, and the picture painted is somber. “Moloch” has a bit of a groove to it, as well as some harsh vocals. The bottom end weight is still there, and the band is flirting with Alternative elements here. That thick, meaty bass is excellent. “Murmur” presents a third song with a totally different vibe than the first two. It brings the music over into the realm of Metalcore at times, and the chorus has a nice hook to it. “The Stranger” has more Alternative/Nu-Metal vibes, and the band is good at developing somber melodies here.

“The Living Torch” brings a little Grunge to the party, tinged with some Core in the vocals. So far, the band has managed to keep my interest. “All is Vanity” has a relatively easy riff but the harsh vocals cut through like a knife. The clean harmonies ring with melody however, and I’m not sure the harsh vocals fit the best here. “Godot” is another song with a heavy bottom end and with clean vocals tempering their aggressiveness. The melodies are pretty well developed also. “Sanguine Pt. II” closes the album, and it picks up where the first part left off. This was a good album. The band used a lot of different elements in their brand of music, including groovy riffs, both clean and harsh vocals, some Core, some Grunge, even some Alternative.
