Misanthropic Aggression

I really enjoyed this album. It has a dank and dark quality to it that, combined with its innate energy, just got me up on my feet and made me feel like breaking things, as many thing as I could find. Strangely, I also wanted a shower after listening to it, it was that dirty.

From Georgia, USA, comes Black/Crust Metal band MISANTHROPIC AGGRESSION. Formed in 2015, this is the duo’s first full-length album, and it has twelve songs. Four of the 12 songs are very short, and can be considered as interludes or connecting pieces. Their Bandcamp page makes only one statement: “Here to chronicle the ills of Sociopathology...” “Social Ruin” is first. It’s a very fast and chaotic track that doesn’t follow much in the way of convention. The title track has a more straightforward riff but much of the background is still very thick and clouded, almost like the air after drag cars go racing by. In true Crust fashion, there is also a bit of Punk thrown in.

“Anger/Despair” is a very brief interlude of yelling, and “A.S.S. III – The Borderland Wars” is a thrashy mix of Black and Death Metal with a bit of a groove. The groove speeds up and slows down again, on a four-chord progression. “Bliss” is another song that gets your heart racing from its power and pace. The bottom end of this song is fuzzy and thick and it nearly drowns out everything else. “La Canzone di Mary Woodhouse” is another short connecting song. This time, it breathes, taking some atmospheric elements and throwing them into the mix. It’s dark, and harrowing. “The Gates of Hell” has a hellish bass line followed by feedback and this time it sounds like heavy steel boots crushing the ground beneath their marching.

“Boomer Death” might be referring to the last true generation of wealth in this country, and younger generations wishing them some misfortune. It has a fast moving pace and a rough riff, and even a guitar solo to boot. “Intentional Under Performance” has a lot of raw aggression that is sort of like pouring gasoline onto a fire. The song is also about as dirty as they come. “Winner of the Franchise Wars” is another impossibly short song, and the band packs in the sound as much as possible. “The Serpent and the Sickle,” unlike many other songs on the album, is a full seven minutes. The sound develops slowly, like a sickness gradually taking you over. Then itt slams into gear without a clutch and off it goes.

“Eusocial Demise” closes the album. It a fast-packed weighted sound that slams on the gas pedal from the first few notes and doesn’t let go, and the screams are full of rage. Overall, I really enjoyed this album. It has a dank and dark quality to it that, combined with its innate energy, just got me up on my feet and made me feel like breaking things, as many thing as I could find. Strangely, I also wanted a shower after listening to it, it was that dirty.
