AOR, Hard Rock and Glam Metal are genres that are becoming relevant again as they were in the turn of the 70s and 80s. Obviously that no one is asking for the rise of a new BON JOVI, WINGER, JOURNEY, FOREIGNER, BOSTON or other name like these, because they already exist, so it’s needed to walk their paths, but with your own attitude. And the right attitude is heard on “Take a Piece”, the second album of the Indian sextet ABOUT US. Recorded at Infinite Records Studio, the band produced the album, having Yanthungbemo Ezong on the recordings, and Moyuchen K. Yanthan on mixing and mastering, and the result is a clear and defined sonority, but tons of weight and aggressiveness in some moments (as heard on the guitars and drums on “Endure”). It’s a modern way of dealing with the band’s musical ways.

To say that they’re into an AOR/Glam Metal way isn’t enough to define, because the band has elements of Prog Metal (as heard on “Legion”, where skilled arrangements on the guitars are clear), aggressive takes (again on “Legion” they’re clear, and on “Endure” they’re clear, even with some nasty vocals tunes), so it can be said that the band takes references in AOR, Hard Rock and Glam Metal, write things according with the individual views of the musicians, but taking things into a coherent form. And it’s great, really great!

It's hard to choose best moments on “Take a Piece”, due its homogeneous appeal, but when dealing with “Come to You” (this one has a true AOR/Glam Metal appeal, with a strong technical outfit, with excellent vocals and a catchy chorus), “Endure” and “Legion” (excellent melodies under such heavy and abrasive appeal, with great vocals again, but with charming keyboards parts), “Fire With Fire” (an excellent work on bass guitar and drums can be heard, guiding the rhythms on such Glam Metal song), “EVH” (a magical AOR moment, with silk and accessible melodies, charming back vocals and great guitars, and it seems to be a tribute to Eddie Van Halen), “Reels for Eternity” (the combination of AOR melodies with modern weight is an amazing choice),… Oh, come on, go and listen to “Far Away”, “Hope”, “Beautiful Misery” and “Fortitude” as well, it won’t hurt your feelings…
