The Path of Destruction

Godeth

Through an emotionally charged display of heavy hitting blasts of solid drums that set the tempo for the low tuned guitars and a thick bass that holds groove undertones with aggressive vocals that overlay perfectly and express thier metalcore hybid sound from the UK.
July 29, 2024

It all started back in 2018 within the western Yorkshire city of Leeds, UK when “Danny Campey”, the drummer, made a simple facebook post. The post that soon got the attention of “Dylan Walters”, their now rhythm guitarist, who eventually responded to this post shortly after. Together, these two Loiners would bring in lead guitarist “Luke Dyde” and a few years later in 2022, bassist “Jimmy Johnstone". Their vocals “Miles Case-Watson” would later join and would then complete the band lineup and GODETH was created. With a previous EP “Life to the Flame”, which was released back in 2021 and a handful of singles prior to their latest EP “The Path of Destruction”, which was released April 26, 2024. The band GODETH decided to remain independent as they chose the DIY approach that can further testify that bands don't necessarily need labels to get their music out. Their latest EP “The Path of Destruction” is a solid six tracks that showcases their well crafted sound that lasts 22:35 minutes.

With so much detail as I look at this album art, I thoroughly enjoy it. Painted in shades of black and grays which make much of the details while the orange and red highlights paint a blazing fire. You can see men gaining their footing after a destructive element has just taken place. Something you may find in the wake of a path of destruction. A suitable imagery for the overall album name. Im looking forward to hearing what this groove metal band has to offer on their latest EP. Okay so the opening track to this album has some strong metalcore influence but in such fantastic Nu metal tinge. With some heavy low tuned chord progression that builds into a solid drum roll which leads into a bass kick and deep screams that build the intensity. Well timed, the first verse and overall tone of the track kicks off. “Test My Resolve” is a short but aggressive song that has some solid riffs and well placed harsh vocals.

“Coup de grâce”, the second track wastes no time opening with a heavy and thick tone that shreds through the entirety of the track. Those harsh vocals and overall Nu metal hybridization of metalcore is amazing. Lyrically, this was well written and the overall structure was crafted flawlessly. The parts of growls that build up the intensity and clean vocal breakdown was a nice touch that added to the dynamics as well. Through an emotionally charged display of heavy hitting blasts of solid drums that set the tempo for the low tuned guitars and a thick bass that holds groove undertones with aggressive vocals that overlay perfectly. This album races forward with insanity and builds nicely. You cannot help but hear the old school metalcore and Nu metal influences on their sound. With Elements of KORN, DEFTONES and AS I LAY DYING to name a few others. Each track has a somewhat unique intro before building up and each track offers something. The mixing and master does, however, at times seem slightly off but overall a decent job. At some points I just found the vocal mix to be off slightly. Each track offers something and has variations in the intros as well. So I think they did a decent job here.

Closing of the track we have, “Path of Destruction”, which is a fitting track to close this EP off as it lyrically showcases the nature of destruction while holding an optimistic view for the future. Starting out it has some strong heavy low-tuned guitar chord progression with a thick bass that reminds me of DEFTONES before picking up into a chaotic barrage of aggressive vocals. A solid slam death chugging the overall tone of the song before leading into a solid double kick drum onslaught. Overall a decent album that holds elements of slam death, nu metal grooves and some soaked in metalcore. For an independent band, GODETH does a pretty decent job at executing their sound. The production value could be tightened up a bit, but don't let that keep you from enjoying this. I would recommend getting a copy and trying it out for yourself. As an EP only, they have lots of potential for improvements to come and I will be watching for a full length album.
