Progressive Rock/Metal is one of those styles of music that most people love or hate. The style that was very popular in the 70s has become a "for musicians only" style of music. Maybe because of the odd time signatures, odd structures and ten plus minutes lengths and the fact that it is not a style of music that is affordable to everybody. Most Progressive bands, especially Progressive Metal bands, have become more heavy and less complex over the years while the music is still complex and uncommon, bands like DREAM THEAER, QUEENSRYCHE and SYMPHONY X have been more oriented to today's industry. Therefore, you'll find a catchy song or even two on their last couple of albums so that even if you don't like progressive music you'll get attracted to the band.

That is not the case with KARMAKANIC, this super group of high level musicians has been around since 2002. With four full length albums this band has been making true complex, well composed Progressive Rock with a touch of everything that ranges from Jazz to Metal. It went on the same in the case also of their new album "In A Perfect World". With only seven songs and almost an hour of length, KARMAKANIC set sail to a journey of music with almost every musical weapon available to them along that with that special feeling that was once lurking within the good 70s Progressive Rock bands like ELP.

The songs are long and complex but yet very easy to listen to. There are no long instrumental parts that would make you want to kill yourself. Better so, the instrumental sections were very catchy while the vocal work and lyrical lines were just amazing. Goran Edman is an incredible singer and has the ability to fit his voice to the songs with perfection. The guitar, bass and keys were also startling and were played with no less than perfection, even on "Can Take It With You" that started like a Bossa Nova song and slowly turns into a kind of Industrial tune but with the Bossa feel they still succeed on doing it smooth and easy listening.

In conclusion this album struck gold. If you are a fan of Progressive music, it's definitely a must and if you don't like this kind but still consider yourself a true music lover, go grab this one and I promise that you won't regret it.
