The band with the short name REAP comes from the United States and "Born from Plague" is their debut full-length album. The line-up consists of three veterans from the extreme Metal scene: Kyle Christman (GORGASM, HORRIFIC DEMISE) on drums, Von Young (LIVIDITY, DEADEN) on guitars/backing vocals and the main vocalist Jimmi Javins (NECROTIC DISGORGEMENT). The guys say that their music was "born out of hate, anger and frustration stemming from society and a plague that affected us all" and their influences come from bands like S.O.D., NAPALM DEATH, ROTTEN SOUND, etc.

So what we have here is a record that offers twenty tracks in less than twenty minutes of ferocious Death/Grind which means short tracks consisting of blasting drumming, heavy guitar riffing and the raw vocals of Jimmi Javins. From the opening track "Right to Hate" things become pretty clear: REAP play with brutal intensity and attack your ears with the power of seasoned extreme Metal musicians. There are some Hardcore gang shouts that contributes to the energy of the sound. Good point for "Born from Plague" is that not everything is hyper-speed blasting, there are slower and groovier moments like "Evolve Degrade" which has some DEICIDE vibe in it because of the mix between low and high vocals. "Disrespect=Disrespect", "Snowflake" and "FUQAWF" are absolute smashers with a big dose of humour in them as well as "FY2" which is just one or two seconds long. "6Fucking Feet" has some Sting samples in it that are quite funny and "Ministers of Hate" surprises with a high-pitched Heavy Metal scream in the beginning of the song. "Coronalierus" is putting the end of this album and it's a sonic punch in the face of everything that the governments around the world were saying about COVID-19.

"Born from Plague" was recorded by Tony Tipton who is a member of REGURGITATION and he has done a great job. All the instruments can be heard clearly and the energy and power of the sound are crushing. The cover artwork done by the famous Tony Koehl (he has been doing covers for BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, JOB FOR A COWBOY and many others) is also impressive and COVID-19 inspired. No wonder that this album is released by the legendary Selfmadegod records. So if you consider yourself an oldschool Death/Grind fan then REAP is a band that you will fully enjoy. "Born of Plague" is a very strong debut and hopefully we will hear more from these guys in the future!
