The passion for Old School Metal genres is a fact. It’s a consequence of the passion that Death Metal bands used to have in their early releases. The rebel young appeal, along with the creative insight during the early days of the Second Wave during the 90s still echoes today and releases as “Warmaster”, “Blessed are the Sick”, “The Grand Leveller”, “Clandestine”, “Indecent and Obscene”, “Mental Funeral” and others are still great to hear today. The albums above are all second ones of the bands, so the idea is to create a link to “Oozing Radioactive Vomition”, the second full-length of the UK’s trio CRYPTWORM. The production, recording, mixing and mastering worked in a way to give the album a sonority that is filthy and distorted as dictated by the models used by Old School Death Metal acts, with things being done in the most simple and ‘deathmetalished’ way possible, but always having in mind that things must be heard and understood be the hearers, so the final result is really good.

On the band’s musical path, there is no reason for long explanations: it’s a traditional Death Metal act with focus on what was done during the rise of the Second Wave of the genre. Technically simple, straight to the point, there are fine rhythmic shifts and many Death Metal hooks throughout the songs. It’s not a sin to say that influences from UK’s Death Metal acts and even from USA (mainly DEATH on its prime and AUTOPSY), but one will feel the natural groove that exists into Metal since the days of BLACK SABBATH in many moments. So their musical work is really very good, and will have a crush on those who miss the old days of Death Metal.

The formula used by the band is already known, but the way that is used on “Oozing Radioactive Vomition” (many parts filled with groove are heard, along with that Old School Death Metal inherited from Hardcore and Grindcore in many moments, with very good and solid parts of bass guitar and drums), “Organ Snatcher” (very good contrasts on the rhythms are heard, with those bitter and disgusting slow moments traditional to the genre in evidence, based on charming guitar riffs), “Necrophagous (Postmortal Devourment)” (another one with very good guitar riffs and arrangements, with focus on heavier and abrasive slow parts), and “Submerged into Vile Repugnance” shows the band’s personality. Of course the trio still have some potential to be turned into good music, but’s a matter of evolution. But what is heard here is far better than “Spewing Mephitic Putridity”, their past album.

For now, “Oozing Radioactive Vomition” is a good offering of a band with a great potential, so let’s hope that CRYPTWORM can put it entirely out in the future.
