Apocalyptic
Evocation

Since their comeback with the self titled compilation in 2004 EVOCATION, from Boras, Sweden, have released two tremendous albums packed with high class Swedish Death Metal. If these albums were released in the early nineties they would have been true classics today but unfortunate the band decided to disappear between 1993 and 2004 after only a few years of existence.
Anyway, it doesn't matter, because EVOCATION is one of the best Death Metal acts today and it is time that everybody starts to understand that because this is how real Death Metal should sound like. With creepy melodies that crawls up your spine, a violent heaviness that hits your chest so hard that your ribs cracks and your heart stops, groovy riffs that makes your neck move until it snaps and vocals that grab you by the throat and suffocate you. You are probably already dead if you don't feel mutilated after a session with EVOCATION's abusiveDeath Metal. These days EVOCATION have more in common with their Gothenburg roots and bands like AT THE GATES than the Stockholm ones like ENTOMBED but everything reeks with corpse stenched Swedish Death Metal anyway. You could easily say that they take the Stockholm thunder and combine it with the Gothenburg sense for melodies.
Their new effort "Apocalyptic" continues their declaration of war to the world with technical riffs, blistering drums and growls from the depths of hell. There are no hit songs here and there are great choruses, but no sing-a-long shit though, and there are defiantly no happy moments of joy here! Only dirty and evil Death Metal. From the start with the amazing "Sweet Obsession" to the almost epic and Black Metal-chaotic ending with the title track EVOCATION shows us that the end of the world is closer than we think.
There is actually no good way to describe Evocations third album besides it is a natural development from their latest album. Because the traditions in Swedish Death Metal are strong and no components are new on "Apocalyptic" but EVOCATION manage to hit all the right tunes to make it right. You could of course easily compare them to other acts like AT THE GATES, UNLEASHED or UNANIMATED but EVOCATION's music stands on such solid ground on its own that comparing is unnecessary. Let's just say that EVOCATION delivers an album that will stand the test of time and will place them in the front as leaders instead as followers in the back.
