CELTIC FROST made their die-hard fans proud and happy (of course) because with an album like "Monotheist" most of the other reunions seem like art declension. And this since they were probably the only band that released something 100% marvelous for such a big name. And here dear reader we are talking about a really big and very heavy name with a long history behind that influenced such a way the Metal world that we would need pages and pages to describe it. Regardless what you may believe "Monotheist" was a characteristic album for the previous decade. Unfortunately and for reasons probably known to everyone the end came very soon and the band returned to its grave. And sometimes this can give birth to something new or the deadly silence will remain in eternity.

Here we have the musical return of Thomas Gabriel Warrior with a new band environed by three young musicians. As he had said the name TRIPTYKON has to do with the third opus in his occult Metal bands after HELLHAMMER and CELTIC FROST while he also mentioned that with this new group he was close to something like a transition as it was with the HELLHAMMER to CELTIC FROST, only now we have the CELTIC FROST to TRIPTYKON path. Of course by only listening to such things the interest raises on top for the debut "Eparistera Daimones". So, we will try a brief description of Warrior's new work and furthermore we'll underline that for this person each new work is always something new as he has never relied in any past things.

TRIPTYKON surely start their descend into the abyss based upon "Monotheist" but on the same side they are flirting more intensely with a shapeless chaos. This of course has as a consequence the reducing of riffing if you compare it with the older CELTIC FROST works but here the really heavy, titanic I would say sound brings nightmares. It is obvious also that the whole thing with the last CELTIC FROST days has brought Warrior into a creative mood where he creates some black tunes full of anger. Anger, wrath reflecting into a prism of sorrow or better repugnance and abhorrence towards almost everything. And because he always wrote music the way he felt it, this whole thing passes to the listener. After this, each one is alone with his nightmares.

From the whole nine new songs some of them will remain to you in the first place because of this total aggressive feeling I mentioned above. These are the opening "Goetia" and "A Thousand Lies" and in both of them you will hear some vocals that become really extreme. Both of them are perfect, no doubt for that, and the refrain in the second number is pure fucking madness. "Abyss Within My Soul" looks like coming from the "Monotheist" mire and is a dark rhapsody. Great surprise is also "Myopic Empire", a song that reminds a lot of the "Vanity/ Nemesis" period including a weird piano break. And if you consider the other members just token participants, well you have to forget this. V. Santura has written two simply amazing songs, "In Shroud Decayed" and "Descending", with the first one being a little bit depressive with the ultimate vocals of Warrior and the second having a thrashing ending that will leave you speechless. The drumming is also very good and the same goes for all the rhythm section. Last but not least, it's worth mentioning the last 20-minutes-long "The Prolonging", a curse towards everything, with a riff somewhere in the fifth minute that kills and destroys. A black litany of ego.

The whole artwork is amazing; the cover as you can see comes from Giger's hands named "Vlad Tepes". What also I liked was the very well written lyrics. From the whole religion metaphysic problem with "Goetia" till the really depressing ones in "My Pain" or the cursing prayer of "The Prolonging", I believe they are worth checking.

If someone put a gun in my face telling me to make a comparison I would say that at least for now "Eparistera Daimones" looks inferior to "Monotheist". But what you're gonna experience here is something that is not often found. This has to do of course (and) for what reason each one listens to music. Anyway, let's close by saying that Warrior is one of the very few Metal musicians that so far have unleashed only great albums without rehashing their past (as so many others do).
