The Rotted - Get Dead Or Die Trying album cover

The motives behind what we were doing with GOREROTTED have changed over the years, and as a mark of respect for what we achieved, for previous band members and for fans, we didn't feel it was right to continue under our previous monicker. This album is gonna blow people away, I couldn't even classify it for you if I tried, all I can say is its heavy as fuck, catchy as hell and a piece of work we're all incredibly proud of. People have been affectionally referring to us as THE ROTTED for some time now, so it seemed like a decent change to us.

The above statement was published by the band's frontman Ben McCrow in a blog at GOREROTTED's Myspace page. How different can this new album be from the band's previous material that they needed to change name in order to show respect to the GOREROTTED 'legacy'? In fact, this is something that I can easily find out. As simple as pressing the 'play' button...

Get Dead Or Die Trying (what a clever album title by the way) is obviously more straight and less Metal album the band has ever released, but since this is a debut release and THE ROTTED is a brand new band I won't try to compare this album to what GOREROTTED offered to us in the past (regarding its quality). With only McCrow left from the former members, the band heads to a less Death Metal/Goregrind sound, creating a more Punk/Grindcore sound which is closer to A New Dawn For The Dead. The good thing is that the band still has this incredible sense of humour, which is more than obvious with song titles like It's Like There's A Party In My Mouth and Angel Of Meth (epic lyrics)!

THE ROTTED are blasting and - mostly - grooving all along the album, offering some really nice headbanging moments. One more thing that makes this album differ from what GOREROTTED produced is its sound, which probably features the best production GOREROTTED ever had. Due to having a more modern sound, they were somehow 'obliged' to have that kind of sound I guess...

All in all, Get Dead Or Die Trying is a nice album that appeals to fans of the Punk influenced extreme sound, as well as to people who wouldn't care if GOREROTTED took a slight turn towards the NAPALM DEATH style music. To tell you the truth, I prefer listening to the fucking incredible Only Tools And Corpses, which featured two vocalists and had a wider variety of sounds, but Get Dead Or Die Trying is still a nice buying option.
