Domkraft - Domkraft
June 9, 2025
DOMKRAFT, “Doomkraft.” If you missed their debut in 2015, you get a second chance in 2025. Nothing like being ten years late for the party . . . but in the metalsphere there never really is such a thing as being too late.

Spider Kitten – The Truth is Caustic to Love
June 9, 2025
What the hell is a spider kitten? And if you saw one, would you try to pick it up or run in abject horror? Like its namesake, SPIDER KITTEN is a hard band to get into and a hard band to walk away from.

Drunken Crocodiles - Aegony
April 14, 2025
“Aegony” isn’t for everyone . . . but isn’t that the way it is with all metal? Ironically, DRUNKEN CROCODILE is a thinking man’s sludge offering up narratives to ponder and questions to examine.

Old Skin – Wails of Ten Thousand
March 23, 2025
“Wails of Ten Thousand” is the most refined OLD SKIN has ever been both from the production angle as well as the songwriting angle, evolving from raw to visceral but still very much deeply embedded in the realm of brutality.

Greh – Dysphoric Devotion
February 11, 2025
Dysphoric Devotion is a solid Blackened Death artifact. It doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. This is pure, unmitigated extreme metal with no flourishes or facades. Only serious metal fans need apply.

Meifu – Haunted Dreams
August 5, 2024
“Haunted Dreams” is steeped in Eastern flourishes, served up with a fat side of metaphysics and healthy main of Psych Doom. A hearty fare, this one.

High On Fire – Cometh The Storm
July 29, 2024
If you come to “Cometh the Storm” looking for status quo, you might be disappointed. There is something different going on here. Nothing too out of bounds, but definitely a new twist to an old game.

Huntsmen - The Dry land
July 29, 2024
I haven’t heard a lot of truly unique albums this year but this "The Dry Land" is definitely one of them. On paper, it sounds like something that shouldn’t work but sure as hell does once that play button is pressed. This is a good release for headphone listening as well, so all the details can be fully captured.

Ivy Gardens – Goon
July 15, 2024
“Goon” by IVY GARDENS. Pretty cool stuff. I like the inventiveness of it. I could use some more despair or a splash of Satan or something to dampen the light, but I appreciate that not all metal has to be sinister and dark. Definitely worth checking out.

Red Rot - Borders of Mania
May 30, 2024
All in all,
RED ROT
’s “
Borders of Mania
,” is such an intense album on every level that it was a surreal listening experience. I highly suggest this to any fan of extreme music.

Lares - Et in Arcadia Ego
May 15, 2024
Even if tripped out doom/sludge and long songs aren’t your thing, give this one a chance. It’s so weird, nearly to the point of being alien, that even if you don’t like it or it isn't normally isn’t your style, I think it will still be an engrossing experience that will pull you until the very last second.

Sun Of Nothing - Maze
April 23, 2024
All in all, “Maze” is a nasty album with a sound that is nearly palpable. The extremity of the album is nothing short of impressive but also just as immersive. Any fan of underground music that goes against the grain needs this in their collection.

Fraught - Transfixed On Dying Light
January 21, 2024
It is extreme and aggressive but more in a subvert way than being more obvious. It has a lot of replay value because everything about it is so well done.
