Howling Giant – Crucible & Ruin
November 3, 2025
As ever, HOWLING GIANT fuse melodic phrasing, sophisticated arrangements, and heavy psych riffs in a variety of permutations that are both inventive and visceral.
review
Castle Rat – The Bestiary
September 21, 2025
A metal band that would feel as comfortable at GenCon as they would at Wacken Open Air.
review
Wucan - Axioms
September 2, 2025
WUCAN takes some twists and turns with “Axioms” that might throw some listeners off, but the band stays true to their vision and refuses to stand still.
review
Solace - Further
August 11, 2025
If “Further” were to drop today as a brand-new album it would undoubtedly be heralded as one of best albums of 2025. As reissue, it could still hold that honor.
review
Wolfskull - Midnite Masters
August 9, 2025
There is nothing wrong with what WOLFSKULL is playing on “Midnite Masters”. What will help some people is that the voice of singer Pete 9 has a similar sound as out little giant Glenn Danzig has, only with a little more variation in his timbre.
review
Ashes of The Sun - Gods With Machines
August 9, 2025
Well, let me first off tell you that this is not Extreme Metal in any way or form. No, on “Gods With Machines” you will hear simple Heavy metal and Rock, intertwined with slower and more emotional musical parts to heighten the diversity and widen the range of musical paths travelled.
review
Killjoy – Dream and Violence
July 7, 2025
Personally, I’d count this as a demo.
review
Rainbow Bridge – Soundtrack of a Silent Land
June 23, 2025
On balance, “Soundtrack of a Silent Land” is a well-crafted piece of Stoner Psych Rock. If exploratory jam tracks are your thing, this is a good album to check out.
review
Domkraft - Domkraft
June 9, 2025
DOMKRAFT, “Doomkraft.” If you missed their debut in 2015, you get a second chance in 2025. Nothing like being ten years late for the party . . . but in the metalsphere there never really is such a thing as being too late.
review
Fuzzriders – I Like It
May 18, 2025
Track-by-track “I Like It” is consistently good. In fact, I quite like it.
review
Powerhill – Generation X
May 11, 2025
POWERHILL’s “Generation X” is a smirky salute to 80’s Heavy Metal. It clearly doesn’t take itself too seriously but still delivers.
review
Desert Smoke – Desert Smoke
April 7, 2025
DESERT SMOKE, “Desert Smoke,” with or without the apostrophe, scores high on the Metal Temple scales. Well worth the time to check out.
review
Maison Dieu - Herbacea
March 30, 2025
Count me as a sucker for Italian female vocals and Stoner Psych trios. "Herbecae" is a stunning debut. Can’t wait to see what’s next from MAISON DIEU.

“To quote Step Brothers, it just feels good 'to make beautiful music for a sad world.'" - Sami Wolf, Moon Wizard
January 26, 2025
Moon Wizard is a Stoner/Doom Metal out of Salt Lake City, Utah. After three independent albums the band caught the attention of Hammerheart Records who promptly signed the band and re-released their third album, "Sirens," in January 2025 to wide acclaim from Brazil to Sweden to Australia. Gary Hernandez, writer and editor for Metal Temple, recently caught up with guitarist Aaron Brancheau and vocalist Sami Wolf to discuss the band’s origins, their evolution, and future plans.
review
Spiders – Sharp Objects
January 6, 2025
“Sharp Objects” isn’t the gritty, raw comeback album I was hoping for, but it also isn’t a throw away. If you like your rock well-sanitized and appreciate the 80’s garage scene, this might be the album for you.
review
Moon Wizard - Sirens
December 30, 2024
Pro tip for this album: Headphones are a must. And not that crappy pair that came with your phone—I’m talking noise-cancelling, over-the-ear bad boys that will immerse you in the liquid smoke that is MOON WIZARD.
review
Ghostwound - Ghostwound
December 21, 2024
“Ghostwound” is a psychedelic trip down a wandering road which somehow winds back on itself, in the end depositing you where you left off and enticing you to head out yet again.
review
Sbarco – Sbarco
November 4, 2024
SBARCO’s debut album marks a good starting point for the trio, their initial landing if you will. It’s a well formulated album but maybe needs a little more unbridled passion.
review
Elephant Tree – Handful of Ten
October 14, 2024
“Handful of Ten” differs from the usual oddities collection in that it offers old, variant, and new tracks, taking a look back, ahead, and askance. You might call it a 360 or even Panavision album, giving a wider perspective of this intriguing band we call ELEPHANT TREE.
review
Worshipper – One Way Trip
September 23, 2024
“One Way Trip” is a mixed bag. WORSHIPPER is a good enough band, certainly, but not distinctive enough to really stand out in the metalsphere.
review
Grand Massive – Houses Of The Unholy
August 12, 2024
GRAND MASSIVE’s “House of the Unholy” is a sturdy bridge between studio LPs. Clever title, bizarre and striking cover, first-rate tracks throughout, and a convincing cover to round it all out.
review
Ivy Gardens – Goon
July 15, 2024
“Goon” by IVY GARDENS. Pretty cool stuff. I like the inventiveness of it. I could use some more despair or a splash of Satan or something to dampen the light, but I appreciate that not all metal has to be sinister and dark. Definitely worth checking out.
review
Magnum – Here Comes The Rain
March 25, 2024
“Here Comes The Rain” feels like the last letter Tony wrote to us. Listen to it in good health and with fond memories. Rock is dead, long live rock.
review
Remedy – Something That Your Eyes Won’t See
March 4, 2024
I get the appeal of REMEDY. There are many, many people on this planet who will love this album. I’m just not one of them.
review
The Refreshments – A Stiff One
November 17, 2023
THE REFRESHMENTS are popular because they have market appeal, which is a fancy way of saying they’re good. So, if you can be open-minded enough, go get you “A Stiff One.”
