Morgue - Close To Complete Darkness
September 10, 2024
MORGUE
, hailing from France, is a powerhouse within the Brutal Death Metal scene. Since their formation in the late 1990s, they have relentlessly carved a niche with their intense, guttural ferocity and technical precision. Their 2024 LP,
"Close To Complete Darkness"
, showcases the band at their bleakest, blending raw aggression with profound thematic depth, echoing existential despair. Known for crushing riffs and a meticulously crafted sound,
MORGUE
channels the visceral ferocity of early Death Metal while embracing modern Brutal Death Metal’s unyielding brutality.

Open Surgery - Absolute Destruction
September 9, 2024
What it does do is make “Absolute Destruction” into a very nice Old School Death Metal album. What I will say is that if this is one of your first encounters with that music gnre, you could do a lot worse than “Absolute Destruction”.

Burnt Offering – Frightmare (Demo 1985)
September 9, 2024
After a few listens i'm starting to wonder why no one picked up and signed BURNT OFFERING. In comparison with some of the releases halfway through the eighties they would have easily come through on top. Not only that, but my ears and brains are telling me that the music on “Frightmare (Demo 1985)” also has stood the test of time.

Wolfheart – Draconian Darkness
September 9, 2024
This was an excellent album, with a nice combination of Melo Death elements and symphonic ones. The orchestral sounds didn’t take over the music however, but rather were there in support. The music was vital, and powerful, and leaves the listener with a sense of the magnanimous.

Seeds of Mary – Love
September 6, 2024
The Alternative elements slightly outweigh the Progressive ones, but there are other more subtle things going on as well, like some Punk influence and Psychedelica. One thing that you can’t fault the band for is their grand sense of adventure. Admittedly, this album is very hard to pigeon hole, therefore it will appeal to a wide variety of music fans.

Portrait - The Host
September 3, 2024
The Host, an album that will take you through hellfire, but will ensure that you won't get burned. A fascinating accomplishment by an outrageously good band.

Downfall Of Mankind - Purgatory
September 2, 2024
I just thought it was a whole bunch of noise, until all of a sudden all the pieces of the puzzle feel into the right places and it all started making sense. Do I feel that DOWNFALL OF MANKIND has made a blinding album? No, I don't, but I do think they have made one that will get the afficionados of Modern Metal take stock and give them something to think about.

Mothfield – Mothfield (Reissue)
September 2, 2024
As a music lover, I am always looking for something off the beaten path…something different. This was a hard pill to swallow, however. When music itself becomes too discordant, it is even music anymore? You have to admire their courage, but there just isn't a lot to enjoy here.

Indulgence – Grim Times
September 1, 2024
Let me start by saying that f you are expecting INDULGENCE to sound polished, slick or easy listening, you can get that notion right out of your head. This is honest, raw, direct and uncompromising Thrash Metal, with all the flaws that this brings.
review
Nightwraith – Divergence
September 1, 2024
This album stands out as one of the most unusual I've ever heard. It masterfully blends the raw intensity of fierce Black Metal with the soothing presence of smooth keyboards and intricate guitar harmonies. The contrast between the harsh vocals and the melodic, atmospheric layers creates a unique listening experience that feels both powerful and unexpectedly harmonious, pushing the boundaries of what music can offer.

Marco Glühmann – A Fragile Present
August 30, 2024
Not being familiar with his main band, I took Marco’s solo album on its merits alone, and it is fantastic. He clearly doesn’t shy away from melodies that border, and in some cases, jump head first into the Pop music category. What results is an album has that substance, character, and artistry, with complexities that are subtle and don’t take away from an easy listening experience.

Solstitium - Morgoth
August 27, 2024
All in all,
SOLSTITIUM

” is a solid debut album that shows a band with unlimited potential. Their balance between heavy and light elements, while keeping it catchy and emotional, is impressive.

Fabulae Dramatis – Violenta
August 24, 2024
Overall, this was an excellent album. It was full of emotional peaks, created by the yin and yang of the ebb and flow of the various vocals styles, and musical shifts. The band is very talented as well, and they use that talent to create an exciting album that is full of mystery and darkness.
review
Vicolo Inferno - Circles
August 24, 2024
VICOLO INFERNO. That last word got me hoping that the music of this band would have some oomph to it, a certain kind of eargerness and a sharp edge that would have me sitting on the edge of my seat, whilst tapping my foot and banging my head. Even when I found out that the band is a pure melodic Rock/Metal combo I had hopes of a very positive outcome of this review.
