One With The Riverbed – Succumb
October 26, 2024
It’s the kind of album that lifts you up just enough to breath but then stifles you with thick, black smoke. You only get a fleeting sense of relief. This repeated pattern is one that you don’t even notice, because hope is such a strong feeling. Come and explore the many different layers of sound on the album and decide for yourself how it makes you feel.

Dreadmask – Thy Prime Dread
October 24, 2024
I’m afraid this album just fell flat. It didn’t push any boundaries, nor use any of the other tools in the genre like clean vocals or keyboards. It was just guitar driven MeloDeath with some guitar harmonies here and there. I would encourage them to take more chances next time, because it can make their sounds more memorable.

This release displays a way of mixing traditional Heavy Metal melodies with Thrash Metal aggressiveness.

Sign of the Jackal - Heavy Metal Survivors
October 22, 2024
As for the music on “Heavy Metal Survivors”, it is as straight forward as an arrow. Hard driven riffs, flanked by thumping bass sounds and very inspired drumming is what SIGN OF THE JACKAL is shooting at you. it works, and it will have you interested in a heartbeat.

Legions of Doom - The Skull 3
October 22, 2024
LEGIONS OF DOOM
have returned with their 2024 LP,
"The Skull 3,"
a monumental offering from the Chicago, Illinois doom metal scene. This album showcases their mastery of modern doom metal, blending crushing riffs with hauntingly evocative vocals and impeccable production. Each track on this record feels thoughtfully crafted, with layers of emotion and intensity that pull the listener into a dark, atmospheric journey. The harmoniously performed vocals, are a highlight, adding a unique dimension to the slow, heavy soundscape.

Corpsefucking Art - Tomatized
October 22, 2024
The Italian death metal force
CORPSEFUCKING ART
returns with their latest offering,
"Tomatized,"
a concept album that takes the listener on a thrilling, visceral ride through an apocalyptic vision of humanity’s downfall—this time at the hands of bio-engineered, monstrous tomatoes. The theme is both absurd and darkly thought-provoking, a dystopian reflection on mad science, unchecked corporate greed, and the fragile ecological web we've manipulated without considering the consequences. With stunning artwork that captures an overwhelming tomato invasion crushing civilization, buildings buried beneath an unstoppable crop,
"Tomatized,"
paints a vivid picture of ecological catastrophe.

Carmeria – Tragedie D’Amour

Coma Hole – Hand of Severance
October 21, 2024
COMA HOLE is reminiscent of HEAVY TEMPLE and RUBY THE HATCHET and carries on the great tradition of Northeastern Stoner/Doom bands. “Hand of Severance” is a solid debut full-length.

Monolithe – Black Hole District
October 20, 2024
The band masterfully balances the crushing weight of Doom Metal with haunting, melancholic melodies that feel almost ethereal in their delicacy. The slow, deliberate tempo common in Doom is ever-present, creating a sense of impending dread that lingers throughout each track, but it's never overwhelming to the point of suffocation. The melodies serve as a lifeline, offering glimpses of light within the murky depths. This is an album where the heavy and the melodic entwine in a dance that feels both tragic and cathartic. It’s a testament to their ability to merge two seemingly opposing forces into a cohesive, stirring experience.
review
Anomalie – River Child
October 18, 2024
This was an excellent album that straddled both the Black Metal and Doom Metal genres very well, and there were balanced amounts of aggression, anger, melancholy, and despair. The more you listen, the more you will be swept away with the tide.
review
Nubivagant – The Blame Dagger
October 17, 2024
First thing right off the bat before I summarize the album, is that you have to consider that the entire project was created by just one person, so keep that in mind. With that, the album just fell flat for me. The clean vocals were something different for sure, but I just don’t think they worked well enough with the music.
review
Dead Flesh Stigma – Necrocosmic Death Ritual
October 17, 2024
What started out partly as an ode to the forefathers of Black Metal transformed into some wider boundaries of evil and disease. The end product was quite well done, and the band was able to stretch boundaries while still holding true to the tenants that created the genre.
review
Silvern – Stardust Sermons
October 17, 2024
Overall, this was a good album. Although I heard more on the darker side of life than hope per se, it still achieved a nice balance. Many of the tones were aggressive and angry, in the way that you would want a Black Metal album to sound.
review
Magnetar – There Will Be No Peace In My Valley
October 17, 2024
The band is 100% right about one thing…people in power lose their shit at the prospect of losing said power. But us peasants suffer the consequences. I hear that fear reflected on the album very clearly. It’s aggressive when it needs to be, and solemn at other times.

review
Schammasch – The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean
October 15, 2024
This is an album that thrives on tension, playing with the spaces between light and shadow, and daring the listener to linger in those hauntingly bleak moments. The instrumentation is brooding and deliberate, with guitars that churn and swell like distant thunder, and drums that pulse with an ominous, almost ritualistic cadence. The melodies, though sometimes subtle, are laced with a melancholic beauty, creating a chilling contrast to the heaviness that dominates the album. What sets this album apart is its commitment to atmosphere. It’s as if the album itself is a living entity, drawing you further into its haunting world with each passing minute.
review
Cober Mouth – Untethered
October 15, 2024
COBER MOUTH claim to play Nu-Metalcore, whatever that may be. I suspect a combination between Nu Metal and Metalcore. If that is so, I can tell you that Nu-Metalcore is quite accurate.

HammerFall - Avenge The Fallen
October 15, 2024
HAMMERFALL is a legendary band who are put on a pedestal for a reason. “Avenge The Fallen,” further cements an already epic legacy. This is their best album in some time so current fans will be pleased but those who jumped shipped earlier will want to take this return voyage.
review
Satan - Songs in Crimson
October 15, 2024
But I can hear in the sound of the guitars that SATAN is smiling. He is seeing that the world is going down fast, and that his kingdom and reign is about to take hold. That might explain why the riffs on “Songs In Crimson” sound less menacing than they usually do, instead they sound more upbeat.

Wicked Maraya - The Mystic Demos
October 15, 2024
As for the musical direction, please forget what the band WICKED MARAYA was doing on their debut album, as MYSTIC is cut from a completely different cloth. There is nothing Epic about what I am listening to on “The Mystic Demos”. What we have here is a band trying to impress by playing straight forward and rather fast Heavy Metal, or what we now would call it Traditional Heavy Metal.

Hand Of Omega – The End Of The Beginning
October 14, 2024
HAND OF OMEGA deliver a spine-chilling debut album. “The End Of The Beginning” is a symbiosis of direct, aggressive riffing and doom-laden melodies without any trace of melancholy
