The Chase
Nate Silva
My sole complaint with the album is that it was too short! I could have used a few more songs to ride out this early summer day vibe. The music was very pleasing and easy to listen to. Sometimes, you don’t want or have to overthink good music.
Convergence
Fractal Generator
Overall, this album was put together carefully and considerately. It’s highly technical, but it also breathes. Any fan of Tech Death will surely find a lot to love on this album.
Cineasta
Cineasta
A fine and surprising release from this side project of SCAR FOR LIFE's mastermind!
Reborn
Holler
Brooklyn born singer Terence Holler who for three decades was the frontman of the progressive […]
Destination Unknown
Neon Rider
Neon Rider are an AOR/Melodic Rock group from Argentina. They began in the second half […]
The Haunting of Silvåkra Mill - Rites of Passage
Malsten
The lengthy songs hit hard, and there are just enough of them. Any more, and they would overstay their welcome. The album has just the right balance between an immense weight, and subtle tension that can rise up and surprise the listener.
Chimaira
Stone Horns
This is the first time that I hear about this French band from Marseille called […]
Arkanum
Spit On Your Grave
"Arkanum” is a mixture of aggressive pummeling, punishing riffing, crushing basslines, and hammering blast-beats. It should be part of the album collection of every Death Metal fan
Nomad
Darkestrah
This was a solid album. Black Metal elements blend smoothly with Doom elements until as a listener, you aren’t sure how to feel. On one hand, blinding rage, and on the other, utter despair. It is these types of feelings that the album imparts.
For Death is Fate
Voltumna
Wow, what a good surprise is this Black/Death Metal act from Italy!
The Ritual Has Begun
Show N Tell
Good Heavy Metal ideas, but the production fails on making it huge...
Night Stealer
Savaged
A good and promising name on Speed/Heavy Metal that unleashes its fury.
Moon Healer
Job for a Cowboy
The Prog/Death Metal American lords are back after 10 long years, and at full force!
Dying World
Full Assault
Maybe a new German Thrash Metal icon is on the rise, by what one can hear on this album.
Armagelion
Armagelion
Hard/Glam Metal with a party feeling from outer space.
Teenage Rebel
Nestor
WOW, what a lovely Hard/Glam Metal this release is! I want to move to Sweden after this!
Damnatio Memoriae
Hrizg
Although much of the sound is thick and harrowing, it is also too repetitive, which is my number one complaint on albums. The band isn’t without talent, but they have to offer more diversity in their music.
Semitae Mentis
Spiritual Deception
After eight long years, the Brutal/Technical Death Metal band SPIRITUAL DECEPTION has come forth with their very first full-length album “Semitae Mentis.”
Stand United
Firewind
Life after Ozzy. Gus G. releases a great album with his band.
Exclamation Point
Armagh
How to sum up AMARGH’s “Exclamation Point”? Some hit and miss, but mostly hit. If you ever drove a Harley without a helmet or smoked filter-less Camel cigarettes, this is probably your jam.
My Plateau
Profane Burial
I love the innovativeness of “My Plateau.” This isn’t your average Symphonic Black Metal album nor is PROFANE BURIAL your average Black Metal band.
Harbinger of Woe
Brodequin
All in all, BRODEQUIN have already been considered death metal royalty for some time and “Harbinger of Woe,” is only going to further cement those thoughts
Life Promised Death
Farsot
All in all,
FARSOT
’s “
Life Promised Death
” is a nice surprise and an album that I can definitely see myself going back to throughout the year.
Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day
Babylon A.D.
For a rock band to stick around more than three decades and still have three original members is quite a rarity in today’s musical landscape, but that’s what BABYLON A.D. have accomplished with their latest release “Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day”.
Hymns to the Moon
Moon Incarnate
I hear elements of Doom, Sludge, Gothic, and even Black Metal on the album and it is indeed a harrowing affair. Perhaps most impressive is how the band mixes these things up in every song so you never know what is coming next.
Profane Prayer
Suicidal Angels
SUICIDAL ANGELS stick to a well-tried traditional Thrash Metal sound. They do not re-invent the Thrash Metal wheel, but they spin it with excellence
Abominable Presence of Light
Acrid Death
ACRID DEATH are a German band and "Abominable Presence of Light" is their debut full-length […]
IIII
Solbrud
The band works melody into each composition, as well as a range of emotions. Even for its lengthy running time, it never gets boring. They explore as much territory as I have heard a Black Metal band explore and leave no stone unturned. This is an album for all fans of the genre.
Tough Love
Aardvark
Sorry for the Tough Love.
Hamfarir Hugans
Drungi
I am familiar with the harsh nature of the weather in Iceland, as well as the phenomenon that happens to people who don’t get enough sunlight in the winter. Both of these things contribute to the harshness of the music on the album. It is bare bones, no questions asked Metal.
蘇醒 - II – Frailty
OU
The album defies traditional categorization and seamlessly blends disparate elements into a cohesive and surprisingly harmonious whole, reminding us that creativity knows no boundaries and that beauty can emerge from the most unexpected combinations.
Goodnight My Children
The Neptune Power Federation
The Neptune Power Federation are an Australian band who's first album “ Mano A Santo” […]
Manifesto
Sunburst
Obviously, the band has talent. I appreciate the way that they hold back from letting that take over the album though. They do cut loose every now and again, and these little snippets keep the listener engaged and excited. It’s the songwriting that is the main star here. They could have easily written and performed a few 12 minute+ songs, but instead, they have meticulously composed an album with eight outstanding pieces that don’t overstay their welcome.
Humanism
Malconfort
It’s hard to even draw a peer comparison to this band, but if I had to, I would say they are on the same planet as IHSAHN at least. But they occupy half of the celestial body as their own, and live in the shadows. The songwriting and musicianship are outstanding. If you are in for something different, something with a lot of character, style, and substance, give “Humanism” your time. It has album of the year potential for sure.
Lumina
Theragon
A very good surprise is this Heavy/Power Metal quintet from Spain with its new EP.
The Restoration - Joseph Part Two
Neal Morse
Another excellent release of Neal Morse (but you alreadyknew it).
