La Saignée

Zero Absolu

This album is a masterwork in duality, contrasting love with loss and intertwining happiness with regret in a way that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. It leaves you with a bittersweet aftertaste, a poignant reminder that love and loss, happiness and regret, are not opposites but inseparable parts of the same experience. It’s an album that lingers long after the music stops, inviting listeners to reflect on their own journeys and the emotions that make us human.

From Bandcamp, “In 2023, the core of the original lineup, accompanied by a member of REGARDE LES HOMMES TOMBER and another from ALCEST, recorded a new album, “La saignée” (The Bloodletting). The lyrics take the form of a pamphlet confronting the enemies of the band and the Metal scene in general. In 2024, to put an end to the drama, they decided to rename GLACIATION to ZÉRO ABSOLU, and signs with AOP.” Two lengthy songs await the listener.

The title track is first. It eases in slowly, and by the first minute, the main riff is established. Although hardened, it also flows smoothly with melody, and I daresay even a bit of hope. The harsh vocals however cut through the canvas like a sharp scalpel and leave fat drops of blood behind. There is a drop in sound approaching the half way mark. Cold winds howl, and then firm, solemn tones follow. They are angry at times also, and this is highly nuanced music. It finally reaches a breaking point, and tension hangs in the air. Which path will he choose? It’s clear, he chooses to fight. With each step forward, the burden is lessened, and the sun finally peaks out of the horizon.

“Le Temps Détruit Tout” is the second and final song on the album, and I am very curious where this one might take us. A rush of heavy emotion comes out of the gate, with a firm backing of instruments, and horrid, tortured vocals. The sound drops once again, and tension fills the air. Steady keys hold a single note, with bells above, and you can feel the earth shifting under your feet.  Angry tones roar up like a hungry lion in the savannah, but the resolve within your heart is equally as powerful. You are willing to risk it all for just one more chance.
