Australian Death Metal outfit WRITHING has released their debut single "Eternalised In Rot", a slice of furious old school Death Metal, with updated production values. This trio make the most of its extremely short length, showing off their skills in just two tracks.

"Void Of Derision" opens with dense yet melodic riffing and an exquisite, enigmatic feel. Some punchy drumming by session drummer Jake Sproule. An insanely brutal song that keeps you headbanging through its whole length. Some weird, effected guitar ambience appears in its psychedelic middle-section. Pat James' vocals are adequate but nothing special, still a commendable effort. The track seems like an exercise in contained tension, never fully climaxing. It transitions smoothly into the title track. It feels a bit like the climax of the first song, as if they actually were one song divided into two tracks. Things get quite doomy for a couple of moments, coming to an intense and almost abrupt ending.

Being a little under six and a half minutes, "Eternalised In Rot" manages to catch your attention and leave you wanting more. A lot more. Its brief length makes it an enormous tease, showing the talents of the band and at the same time never committing to more than a slight presentation.

WRITHING deliver a solid debut with "Eternalised In Rot" and it should not disappoint any Death Metal fan. Be warned, you will be wandering why they decided not to give the listener a little more. The party seems to be getting started just when it is over. You could say at least, the hosts are really fun.
