Dissecting The Leech
Wreck-Defy

WRECK-DEFY is classed as a Thrash Metal band that hails from Thunder Bay in Ontario, Canada. They have been making an awful lot of noise since 2016 and their current album "Dissecting The Leech" is their sixth studio album to date. To complete the set there is also an EP that the band made some time ago. But let's get back to the musical genre, as I feel that this is not a completely accurate description. I would add Power Metal to the mix. In actual fact, I can make it a lot easier for you as readers as to in which direction you need to look when describing what I hear on "Dissecting The Leech". WRECK-DEFY sounds an awful lot like an unleashed version of OVERKILL, with the addition of some "Slave To The Grind" era SKID ROW. Let that sink in for a moment.
Well, now you know what I feel are the influences that WRECKL-DEFY is taking their inspiration from, let's get to the next bit. I mentioned the word unleashed, and I stand by it. this is like a wild rodeo bull that has been let loose and is trying to shake off anyone or anything that needs to be shed. This is high energy, really intense Thrash Metal with a guitar sound and riffing that will remind you of PANTERA from time to time ("Millennial Dystopia" is a good example). But whereas some bands don't give you time to breathe, you do get that chance on "Dissecting The Leech". The band will slow down or tone down from time to time. What those more subdued passages and parts do is make the heavier parts feel even more intense, add a bit of punch to them.
What I have to admit to is that the WRECK-DEFY songs on "Dissecting The Leech" are all of a very high standard, all are bloody good from start to fi nish. I really love what I'm hearing. I compared the band to OVERKILL musically, and where the Americans are strongest are on stage. Even if an album isn't killer, when they play their songs on stage they really come to life. OVERKILL never disappoints on stage. Well, I'm hoping that the live performance of WRECK-DEFY can achieve the same. If it does, they should be able to take over one of the top spots in Thrash Metal. Having an album like "Dissecting The Leech" will definitely help.
