Worstenemy - Deception album cover

When a band from the golden era of Death Metal plays, you have that feeling that you are dealing with guys that know what they are doing. These words of mine mean that someone from the old days keeps the feeling of those days in a way that someone who came later can't understand. It's about time and how the things of those days. An ancient as the Italian trio WORSTENEMY is here to teach some Death Metal lessons to the young ones with "Deception", their latest album.

They have the same feeling of those times, when Death Metal started to improve into a modern outfit. So you can expect something really brutal and fast, with that raw and oppressive feeling. They show a very good technical insight both in fast and extreme moments, as in the slower and bitter parts. They show some influences that come from earlier days of Death/Black Metal as well, so be prepared for a violent and brutal meeting.

"Deception" was recorded at The Grid Studio Europe, and was produced by the hands of Jonathan Mazzeo, and was mixed by Christian Donaldson (from CRYPTOPSY). This explains how they could associate a brutal and oppressive form of music with a clear aesthetics. You can understand all musical details without great efforts. All works in an almost perfect form.

This album is truly a massive and brutal form of Death Metal. So be prepared to have your bones and necks pulverized by songs as "Deception" and its great work on guitars (and fine tempo changes), the same elements that fills the excellent "Solis" (pay attention to the excellent work from bass guitar), the faster and expressive "Conquer the Illusions" (on the slower parts, the vocals shows some clean and agonizing tunes that fits perfectly on the song), the extreme blood puke called "Blood and Dust" (great work from drums, this guy is a monster!), the catching guitars on "A Mortal God", the assault of musical brutality with a technical insight showed on "5th Level of Suffering", and the climatic and oppressive "I". And to show how these guys are creative, they made an extreme Death 'n' Roll version for "Grind", an old song from ALICE IN CHAINS that is really amazing.

I truly recommend you all to pay attention to "Deception", because WORSTENEMY is an excellent name!
