This Heart Won't Listen
Wolf Jaw
The UK was a boiling cauldron of culture and Rock 'n' Roll back on the 60's and 70's. On those days, names as THE BEATLES, THE WHO, BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN and others started an invasion, and caught the youth of those days. So UK Rock still has its charm and appeal, as the trio WOLF JAW shows on "The Heart Won't Listen". Basically, the best label that could fit to express their musical work is Classic Rock, and no other. It's because traces of old Rock genres from the late 60's - early 70's can be heard on their music. But they work in a way that sounds different and personal, besides the moldy feeling can be felt in some moments (because their main genre is from the past, mind you). Their melodies are excellent, the choruses are charming, and the album doesn't sound pedant and a manifest pro-past or against modernity. It sounds just as how they want.
The sound quality is excellent. The trio doesn't try to sound as it was a band from the past, but uses the modern days' technologies to record, but keeping an organic good feeling, like they entered the studio, plugged the instruments and played without any worries. Yes, it sounds clean and defined, with excellent natural tunes. The savage and melodic "Hear Me", the Bluesy touch that "Ain't Ready" bears, the catchy melodic arrangements of "Ticking Time Bomb", the accessible essence of "Piece of Me" (great chorus, fine vocals), the tender acoustic song "Open Your Eyes", and the frantic Rock 'n' Roll song called "Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda" are the best ones. But the CD version has one bonus: the excellent "Living the Dream".
Even playing a musical genre of the past, WOLF JAW has guts to make the thing on their own way, so hear "The Heart Won't Listen" and enjoy a very good Classic Rock experience.
