Within Ceres - Skyless album cover

Formed back in 2014 and flying the flag for Goa, India we have WITHIN CERES with their debut E.P Skyless which was unleashed into the world in June 2020. This is a band that is building a reputation for themselves as ones to watch with their live shows and being described as "Goa's last standing metal band". So lets dive in and see what they are all about.

"Terminal" kicks things off as the music fades in with a guitar sound. We then get some solid drumming and an epic lead guitar line. We get some killer riffing going on here and a great vocal performance from singer "Arnold Carvalho" who goes from growls to clean vocals with ease. The song has a really big sounding chorus and a heavy breakdown for its outro. Great start here. "Dissonance" is next up. The keyboards and lead guitar really play off each other here and even compliment each other with that melody present. While that is happening the rest of the band are bringing the heavy with the riffs and rhythm section backing the song up. So far I am very impressed with this E.P.

Now we get the title track "Skyless" with its insane intro riff. WITHIN CERES wastes no time jumping right in with the rest of what this song has to offer and it really shows you what they have to offer. The lead guitar here really shines on this track and it has a really melodic keyboards middle section. This song feels like they are bringing the listener on a journey of what the future of metal music could be.

The intro to "Weightless" gives us a sense of unease and then we get the keyboards adding to this atmosphere present. The chorus comes out of nowhere and hits and takes the song on a complete 180 degrees. This is a song with some really cool sections well worth checking out.

The last song we get "Our Ocean" which opens with a beautiful piano intro which sounds like a ballad building up. When the guitars come in they totally crash down on top off that and a lead guitar part that really lifts it all back up. Some real killer riffs for the verses and a massive sound for the chorus which reminds me of the chorus section to the song "Catharsis" by MACHINE HEAD. Brilliant song to close the E.P with.

Skyless is one hell of a selection of songs from WITHIN CERES. The vocals present here show a lot of range by switching from death growls to clean singing with ease. This band has a big sound which really shows on there massive choruses. This band are really tight and from listening we can here that every member has a role to play. WITHIN CERES are really a band to watch and could have some big things coming there way in the future and Skyless is a great E.P with a fantastic collection of songs and music.
