Witchsnake
WITCHSNAKE; a new Italian based Doom/Stoner Metal band who reside via Regain Records, unleashing their self-titled debut full-length studio record "Witchsnake" (released September 12th, 2022) (of which I keep thinking of WHITESNAKE ironically). 6 tracks ranging around 35 minutes; this rampantly rompy thud of sturdy reverb rumbles with sulphurous sludginess that's gnarly and distorted, within "Full Moon Wizardry". This snare of scouring smog that ramifies with this raw and rough tonality, distils a chunky density in impactful impulses of venomous guitar/bass injections from infectiously dexterous flickerer Al, a dynamic thump of rambunctiously tight yet kaleidoscopic synergy seamlessly rips with weighty, punchline grooves and amplified grumbles in which showcase primitive yet otherworldly spellbinds of towering remedy that's momentously vigorous whilst malignantly swampy to boot.
"The Acid Dead" continues belting a clobbering foundation in concretely gritty extremity and noisy substance, that's profusely robust whilst persistently persevering with piercing revs & virtuoso calamity, as a boisterously bouncy fabrication in flair eccentric distinguishment portrays this vitriolic sound production that materialises with salubrious yet slow down crescendos amongst a hybrid experimentation that utilises vehement versatility to boot. Whilst this steely stomp from hammering drummer Joe slams the set with steely precision & piledriving heft, compiling these nimble slabs of solid pursuits that manifests with bombastic clamours amongst a distinctive crunchiness of meaty riffage that's most virulently catchy... especially in "Weed of the Witch / Black Trip".
"Hellrider 666" has a crawly and cavernous aesthetic embedded but also this vibrantly potent maelstrom stability to it; as tremolo raising elements implement a creatively complex expertise in monolithic tempo that's dronie but also hasty, where the guitars can almost sound like he is shrieking through the wires that can almost feel like the vocal prerequisite. The penultimate banger "Lungs on Fire" forges a fuzzy barrage frenzy of progressively technical archetypes in archaic fundamentals in chunky but empowering force of stoneresque doom that will unravel you to light up some smoky empowerment for good sport whilst listening to this record.
Overall concluding "Witchsnake" with the finale epic but ethereal emancipation of "Green Serpent Rising; I am compelled to say that this EP was most surely an enjoyably entertaining listen, should you fancy a healthy dose in a hazy Doom/Stoner Metal meticulance of well performed zeal that's worthy of spinning & re-playing a good few times. WITCHSNAKE offered this killer but immersive intense shroud of murky yet shadowy essences in which provides this rollicking yet frolicking attribute in chuggy daze that will start your day off rightly with that one can't help but chill back and light up some strong rolling paper mixed with hash doped pot whilst rocking along amongst some justifiable slice of this subgenre at hand - do check it out.
