Wiegedood - De Doden Hebben Het Goed album cover

WIEGEDOOD are an amazing Belgium, Black Metal band and a new discovery for me and a new one to keep my eyes out on for. WIEGEDOOD supposedly is Dutch for "Sudden Infant Death Syndrome" which made me laugh honestly. But nonetheless, though I can't understand jack all on the lyrical side, I had myself jamming to a fine Black Metal record and it's their first one they've ever made. With only 4 tracks they're fairly lengthy like most Black Metal is, and make for a decent, full-length album. For me Black Metal is usually a one off but if say someone recommends me a band like a friend did for MYRKUR just recently, then I'll certainly give it a go, it's not my favorite genre granted, but I respect it for what it is and enjoy the extremity most bands give off, and WIEGEDOOD did just that. Delivered was a fine, atmospheric Black Metal classic.

For me, this sounds like the missing link between Depressive Black Metal and Atmospheric Black Metal. I don't particularly like the term Depressive, but I'm slowly starting to understand the concept, to each their own though, it still gets my respect nonetheless. "De Doden Hebben Het Goed" (I have no idea what that means) is a fantastic album and for a band who have only been around for a year, this is an impressive feat for a new band to release such a classic. While it seems like an EP, it's classed full-length on Metal Archives so, I'll go with that.

The first track is around 13 minutes in length and my word it had me going nuts in the first few minutes. The lyrics are not understandable, but they fit the mood well with the atmosphere in the music, obviously. Some ambient changes during the middle portion but it just fits the mood well with the "Death" and "Anger" lyrical themes. "Svangeson" is an anguishing and outright extreme 13 minutes you could ask for. I almost jumped out my skin after the acoustic part.

"Kwaad Bloed" is a similar outcome, 8 minutes worth of extremity, pure anguish and power, and, emotion in a way, left me banging my head slowly but powerfully. Extreme bands should take note. The title track "De Doden Hebben Het Goed" (mouthful) is also a pounding, slower, but still keeping the epic vibe the rest of the album gives off. Much shorter, around 6 minutes, we have a rip roaring, guitar riff explosion in the ears. "Will Sreppoc" "Gilles Demolder" and "Levy Seynaeye" really have outdone themselves with this great record. Definitely one for Black Metal and "Depressive" Black Metal fans alike, and all fans of Metal!

I had this on repeat a good few times due to it's sheer intensity and angst "Onder Gaan" being a fusion of the first song but mixed with the slower, ambiance I previously mentioned. "De Doden Hebben Het Goed" is an extreme powerhouse of hardcore integrity, and fans of TSJUDER and NAGLFAR and the like will most definitely love WEIGEDOOD, the resemblance is almost similar and WEIGEDOOD should be proud of themselves after making this brute.

Check it out, worth giving a go.<
