White Widdow (Reissue)

White Widdow

As for “White Widdow” (2010), I can tell you that it sounds rather good from start to finish. The musicians in the band are very capable, know where to play but also when to either tone it down or even keep quiet.

WHITE WIDDOW were formed in Melbourne, Australia in 2008. Raised on a healthy diet of 80's Arena Rock and influenced by artists such as SURVIVOR, DOKKEN, NIGHT RANGER, WHITE SISTER & GIUFFRIA. Well, this much is true, but I am missing two names from the early eighties that should be included, namely AXE and BALANCE. Yes, we are talking AOR at it’s finest if you live in the USA. The rest of the world will probably class this as Melodic Rock. Pride & Joy Music Classixx have re-released the first long-time sold out first three albums by Australian Melodic Rockers WHITE WIDDOW, “White Widdow” (2010), “Serenade” (2011) and “Crossfire” (2014) on June 27th, 2025! They haven’t touched the fourth album “Victory” (2018), as it is still available. WHITE WIDDOW is currently working on their new, sixth album which will be released via Pride & Joy Music in early 2026. Everything that is in cursed writing comes from the info that came with the albums.

As for the debut album “White Widdow” (2010), I can tell you that it sounds rather good from start to finish. The musicians in the band are very capable, know where to play but also when to either tone it down or even keep quiet. And I have to say that although you are able to hear that this could be construed as a first attempt by a band, these Aussies have done good. Musically it might not be as high in quality or exciting as their peers, you can hear that the potential is there and that these guys could and should have gone far. I know that Melodic Rock isn’t my first choice, but after listening to all three albums I have to say that I would have expected to hear about them one time or another. Who knows, maybe I did, but I discarded WHITE WIDDOW back then. I can promise you I won’t make that mistake this time.

Because I really like what I hear on “White Widdow”. Yes, for a debut album I have to say that WHITE WIDDOW has gotten to me and drawn me in by the skin of my teeth. All the songs on this album have that bit of quality that has you wanting more, expecting better things when the band returns. Whether WHITE WIDDOW has delivered in that respect I will not tell you in this review of “White Widdow”. To find out how I see it, you’ll have to read the other reviews as well.
