This is a duo from Finland that, on the recordings, seems like the work of more than just two people. Formed in 2021, they released two demos The Spell of Winter Holocaust and The Eternal Fires of Cleansing. Each are five tracks and neither have songs that appear on their new full length release Dawn of the White Rune. Released in 2022, it has nine additional tracks and is released through Hammer of Hate records. Also, in 2022 through the same label, the band released a compilation album that is made up of the two demos put out in 2021. The reason for this is probably that the demos were released through another label. A productive start to a career for these guys.

The release starts off with an instrumental track called "Brought by the Touch of Death" and is a gradually rising song that engulfs you with an unsettling feeling along the lines of walking through an abandoned circus that builds up to something a gladiator would walk into the colosseum to. The ending quickly morphs into the track "The Iron Claws of Satan". A deep screech accompanied by keys follow some blast beats and frantic guitar. The song still has a Roman Empire dominated sound through the keys. "White Rune Rising" is a fairy tale gone wrong opening into heavy driven drums that keep a rapid pace that carries a powerful rhythm throughout. The keys in this song along with the drums really drown out the guitars as they seem to fall short on the track to me.

The band makes up for that with the track "Soulstorm" that has the most impactful guitars on the album to me. The bass and distortion are centre stage with a grinding and rumbling track that is met well with the frantic drums of Soldau. The track does have its keyboard influence but not to the same effect as others on the album. A very melodic guitar riff exists with the track "Death at Sundown" and can catch you off guard, but the song is one that is worth a mention. This is the more direct Melodic Black metal blazer and is the go-to track on the release for me. "Echoes of Torment" is a back-and-forth battle between a mid-paced heavy hitting doom-like riff against a rapid drum attack. The album ends with the second part of the ravenous "Torn Kingdom Come". The keys on the track try to add a mysteriousness but I find they fall short, and you are left with a punk paced Black metal track. The drums stand out on this track as they carry the tempo and a strong rhythm, and the song ends with a light guitar picking that gently fades out.

The album is Black metal, but I could understand if some people would not fully agree. The keyboards are a strong piece to a lot of the tracks and will fuel the fire of whether or not they should have such a strong presence in Black metal. I am not touching this one folks, just gonna leave it as a take what you want from it and they are there because the artist has the right to their own originality. For a band not yet two years old, the songwriting is strong, and it seems the creativity is flowing in all the right directions. I think the next release will be worth keeping an eye out for in the future.
