Apostasy

Welcome to Pleshiwar

Although at its core, it was total gloom, the moving bass guitar and flickers of melody will keep the listener interested along the way. I would love to hear more from the band in the future.

From their EPK, “With "Apostasy" the full-length debut of the quartet is now available and already a look at the track lengths between six and seven minutes gives an idea of what you have to deal with musically: Dragging Death Doom, which cannot deny its influences of the genre greats of the 90s, is written large here and enriched with progressive passages to a great listening experience.” The album has six songs.

“Apostasy Pt. 1” is first. It does indeed have an old school, OG Doom sound, and the scratchy vocals work well with the music, turning guttural at just the right places. The music also has a tinge of melody to it. “Sisyphean Task (Le Mythe De Sisyphe)” has a deep and dragging sound, accentuated with some melody in the leads, and I also like the keys in the background. They give the song some atmospheric qualities and help to fill in some of the blanks. “Sorrow” rocks with a mid-tempo rhythmic groove. The doomy elements are still very strong but are enhanced with some melody, and the two lock in battle with no clear winner.

“Darkness Within Light” begins with electronic sounds that segue into a devastatingly heavy riff, and Krieger’s bass adds some depth to the music. The riff marches forth with an ominous and dangerous sound, and the spoken words are eerie. “Praying Mantis” is shorter, faster, and more deadly. The riff gallops at times, laying waste to everything in its path. “Apostasy Pt. 2” closes the album. The bass is animated at first, then settles into a slow and punishing groove, but key changes keep the listener engaged. That melody tacked onto the end of the chorus sounds familiar, but I just can’t quite place it.

Overall, this was a solid release in the Doom Metal genre. They have a good base to build on, and showed a lot of promise with their music. Although at its core, it was total gloom, the moving bass guitar and flickers of melody will keep the listener interested along the way. I would love to hear more from the band in the future.
