Sleepwakler
Weightless World
Lyrically, WEIGHTLESS WORLD delves into the complex realm of human spiritual growth and the raw, unfiltered emotions that surface when life takes unexpected turns. These deliberations and stories can also be seen happening from the perspective of one and same character known as Sleepwalker. This thematic approach adds an intriguing layer to the music, making “Sleepwalker” a profound and captivating listening experience for fans of the genre.
“Initiate Restart” has both harsh and clean vocals, and a definite Alternative/Nu Metal type sound. The main riff is simple, but energetic, and the band rocks with a straightforward sound. The solo and bridge section also have a good deal of melody. “Eyes of a God” opens with some really solid lead guitar work, and the clean vocals help to push the melody, which is both rich and bright. “Ragdoll” is another melodic offering showcasing the clean vocals, and a tender sensibility. A heavy emotional sound comes out in the chorus as well.
“Pitch-Black Rainbow” is both charming and emotional, and although the verses are fairly quite in terms of sonority, the chorus is where the band turns it up. Perttu really has a nice voice as well, accentuated with plenty of vibrato. “What We’ll Become” is thicker, and has a heavier and faster sound, with harsh vocals at times, and I feel like the album is starting to come together with cohesion. “Sleepwalking” is another raucous sound with a good deal of energy, but if I could offer one piece of critique, it would be to stop using so many open notes as the base of your music. “Hopeless Dreams” has a combination of emotional qualities along with heavy and somewhat aggressive tones, but the melody is always taking the lead.
“Step into Nothingness” is an eight-minute closer. It has a slow developing sound that has a really sweet melody line. Overall, let’s start with the positives, which include the band’s energy and enthusiasm, as well as their sense of melody. The production is excellent, allowing the music to come through clearly and unabated. Just a couple of critiques however…the first would be to hear more of the band’s personality in the music, and to push themselves a little more out of familiar territory. This was a good album, however.
