The Death is Coming
Weedevil
Today, Doom Metal is an established Metal genre. But it doesn't mean that in any genres of it that things can't be done out of the model used by many. No, one can do things in a personal way, for it's a matter of inner creative power inside of the musician. And the Brazilian quartet WEEDEVIL (from São Paulo) dares to make things on their own terms, as the EP "The Death is Coming" shows.
Their work is based on a Doom metal format using influences from Occult Rock and Stoner Metal/Rock. It means that the final result isn't as bitter as classic Doom Metal outfit usually is, but as it keeps the same musical weight, it has charming melodies and a strong catchy appeal on the harmonies. The vocals are very good, the guitar riffs and solos are excellent, and the rhythmic work from bass guitar and drums isn't usual in its technique, because there are brilliant moments from both influenced by other musical genres (as the vocals and guitars present them as well). So be prepared and dig into their somber music.
The EP was recorded, mixed and mastered during April on bay Area Studio (São Paulo), and the result of the sessions is something that sounds simple and handmade, but using an insight to keep things clean and defined. Yes, though it's not perfect, it fits on what they play (but their music deserves something better). "Death is Coming" has charming and sinister melodies that seduces the listeners easily, a usual outfit for the genre (and it's filled with psychedelic/lysergic instrumental arrangements, as the good work from bass guitar and drums shows), and on "Hi, I'm Lucifer", the quartet shows a work nearer the classical concept of Doom Metal, with excellent guitars and charming vocals. Unfortunately, this EP has only two songs, but rumors say that their first album is coming in a near future.
So be prepared for their melodic and bitter assault, because WEEDEVIL will steal your souls and rob your hearts. "The Death is Coming" is proof of that. Just hear it on the band's Bandcamp profile to be sure:
