Wayward Sons - Even Up the Score album cover

As to what's happening in the musical Rock scene, the name of the UK based quartet WAYWARD SONS isn't new. The albums "Ghosts of Yet to Come" (2017) and "The Truth Ain't What it Used to Be" (2019) earned the band a lot of attention and praises. But as an unstoppable force, they are back for another round with "Even up the Scores", their new album. They're not doing something that's really new at all, because this Rock 'n' Roll/Hard Rock format is used since the early days of the 70's. But unlike many copycatting bands that were thrown down the throat of the fans for the past ten years, these guys have personality, doing things as they want, and balancing the savage and nasty approach of the genre with a very good accessible appeal. The album is ferocious form of music (like a wild cat), but tempered with a massive and energetic appeal that is impossible to resist. What are you waiting for? Taste it!!!

It can be assumed that Toby (the band's guitarist and know producer that already worked with names as SAXON, FASTWAY and others) produced the album, giving it a modern and defined sound quality that allows the band to sound actual (and not like a clone of the past). But don't worry: it sounds organic and fresh, full of a massive energy due the simple instrumental tunes chosen. The album is solid and homogeneous, and could be said as a collection of hits of the genre. But is impossible to not surrender to the band's music on moments as the energetic "Even Up the Score" (a battering ram hit based on excellent guitars, and filled with nasty melodies and a catchy chorus, based on excellent guitars), the accessible "Big Day", the contrast between introspective moments with an energetic chorus heard on "Sign of the Times" (the vocals are truly very good), the high melodic level of "Bloody Typical" and "Faith in Fools" (both with a solid set of rhythmic parts from bass guitar and drums), the nasty and melodic ferocity of "Fake"... Well, let's stop here, because there aren't best moments on the album, because it's that kind of release that you put to play and can be sure that it'll satisfy anyone fully.

It's their third album, and WAYWARD SONS passed the test of the 'third one'. And the readers can be sure that to listen to "Even Up the Scores" is an amazing experience.
