Waylander - Honour Amongst Chaos album cover

Listenable Records has offered some more than good extreme Metal albums to us, metalheads and a brand new release coming from the specific label is always welcome. This time it is about WAYLANDER, a band that is slightly different from the rest of Listenable's roster.

The Northern Irish metallers are delivering their own brand of Metal since 1993, but have only 3 full-length releases (including this one) under their belt. It took them 7 whole years to release a new album, but after signing to the French Listenable the lunatics are back with what some consider being their best album to date!

To tell you the truth I came across some dithyrambic reviews on the internet and I thought that this band would kick my sorry ass for not having spent some time on them all these years. After I listened to Honour Amongst Chaos I realized that WAYLANDER is nothing more than a Folk Metal band that manages to overcome mediocrity, but stay away from what I call good.

The production may be one of the things that make this album sound worse than it should, but the sound is really weak and has the quality of a demo recording. The compositions in here are just ok, with the guitars spitting the classic Folk riffing with some Black Metal touches here and there. All in all there is nothing to make you shit your pants in here. At least that's what I believe after listening to the album. I think that I should suggest this album only to people that are deep into the Folk Metal genre or to fans of bands like THRONAR, HEOL TELWEN and HEIDEVOLK.
