The Speed Of Metal
Warrant
I have to admit that I can’t help smiling when listening to "The Speed Of Metal". WARRANT have done good.

WARRANT is one of the Teutonic Power/Speed Metal bands that I have avoided before now. That needs to be corrected, so I volunteered to review their latest effort of making the audience happy with their music called "The Speed Of Metal". But as many more people will not know about them, I'll give a short history lesson. The band originally formed in 1983, but only was around for two years before it all imploded, just after releasing their debut album "The Enforcer". Fourteen years later they reemerged. It took 15 years before their sophomore album "Metal Bridge" saw the light of day. And now, another eleven years have passed before we are getting treated to "The Speed Of Metal". The question now is if it all was worth the wait.
What is good about what WARRANT is bringing on this album is that the sound is impeccable, plus that their brand of Speed Metal with some Power and even Thrash Metal side steps is actually worth listening to in a very pleasant way. It is easy to digest, doesn't cut or use any strange or unexpected corners and does what it says on the tin. "The Speed Of Metal" is exactly what it says, and what it brings. Nothing more, nothing less. And that also is what is making me sit back and feel that WARRANT have could have made more of this album. Being a little more adventurous would have benefitted "The Speed Of Metal", even though I have to admit that I can't help smiling when listening to it. WARRANT have done good, but could have done better.
The biggest surprise for me is the song "Windy City". I must have heard that brilliant song at least 1000 times throughout all my years, as it is a cover of THE SWEET, and was originally found on the 1977 "Off The Record" album. And it has stood the test of time with ease, even if you might mistake the opening riff to be that of "Woman From Tokyo" by DEEP PURPLE. But then again, THE SWEET guitarist Andy Scott sounded a lot like Ritchie Blackmore in those days, at least when playing live. But what is more to the point, WARRANT does a very good job at transferring it to their sound and giving it their own interpretation. It is just the cherry on the cake of a rather nice sounding Speed Metal record. "The Speed Of Metal" has put WARRANT in my good book. Now let's see how long we need to wait for their next instalment in the form of a full album.
